Nate was slightly taken aback at Jez' accusational tone, but that was just the normal Jez. She had trust problems, and for good reason; there was no way Nate could blame her for what had happened. He did have to answer, though.
"I originally went up to say hi, and maybe have some small talk to relieve some of the stress. That went downhill when Tate asked me, jokingly of course, if I had set any fires over the summer. The news of my parents' deaths spilled out," he said, looking down at the ducks with an embarrassed blush on his face.
