"The water isn't dark because it's dirty." He looked around, daring anyone to say he was wrong. Like he had said before, there were CHARMS placed on the lake to ensure its cleanliness. "It is dark because, just like the forbidden forrest, the lake can be dangerous. The four founders cast spells on the lake to make it unappealing for younger unknowing children to just jump in, to prevent any attack from creatures." And for the most part that worked over the years. "And the name just....fell into place. Maybe by some students." That wasn't recorded.

"Now, there are things other than creatures that are rumoured to be under the lake. Does anyone have any guess to what these things might be?" NOT creatures. Creatures were certainly not things.
August needed the wind to STOP so he could take notes!!!

The Gryffindor had been struggling each time Professor Scabior had dropped a nugget of information on them about the History or use of the Black Lake to write on his piece of parchment but the stupid wind had been trying its best to keep that from happening.

Now they were to guess what all things, not creatures were in the lake. "Um are there any big rocks?" he asked from where he sat. That would definately be interesting. "Like boulders and stuff that have fallen off the cliff?" The one that Hogwarts sort of sat on on the one side of the Lake.
