After closing the door to the greenhouse, Seren turned on her heel to face the students. "Welcome everyone to the first herbology lesson of the term, for those of you who are returning, it's good to see you... for those of you who are new, welcome I hope you enjoy your time here."
"Now before we start I hope you have all familiarised yourselves with the class rules and I hope you all have your gloves with you. If not, please take this time to grab a pair from the stores cupboard," she said indicated the cupboard near the door opposite her.
She paused briefly to allow time for those students to get settled. "Now a few of you have asked about this ivy that is growing on the window panes... and for the record, they won't harm you, though they may attempt to wrap themselves around your ankles or your fingers should you allow them to." She gave a few of the leaves another gentle stroke as they reached out to her.
"Now before we move deeper into the greenhouse, does anybody have any idea as to why there is little light in here?"
OOC: The lesson has OFFICIALLY started, do not post your character arriving late unless you want to lose house points-- just pretend you were here the whole time, also no more chatting please, and DO NOT edit your posts/answers. Feel free to be as creative as you like with your response and I shall continue this lesson in approximately 12 hours.
Cornelius entered the darkened greenhouse with mild interest on his features. He wasn't expecting Herbology as a class to be this...immersed in plant life. The ivy seemed to literally be coating all of the greenhouse walls around them, not helping the classroom's already dim lighting. Which seemed to be because of the ivy, or at least, that's what Cornelius gathered as the professor asked why there was so little light. He thought for a moment, remaining quiet as the rest of the students raised their hands to answer; seeming to have a lot of similarities in their ideas.
He agreed with a lot of their suggestions, but was inspired to think a bit more as Professor Bentley challenged them by mentioning that there was more to it than what everyone was saying. He raised his hand, hoping that he had come up with the right answer, though a bit unsure.
"Is it...because of temperature as well?" he asked curiously, his eyebrows raising just a bit.
"I mean, sunlight, yes, but...does the ivy thrive in a colder, more chilly climate...brought about by the lack of light?"
