I hope the food gets here quickly; I’m starting to get hungry for something more substantial than candy. I’m not sure where Alex went, but I think Conrad went back to the Slytherin table.”
Melanie was relieved to have her friend back. She was even more hungry with nothing to distract her from the gnawing feeling in her stomach.
She smiled up at Silvia. "Yea, we have been sitting a long time," she agreed, nodding. "I'm looking forward to dinner too. I haven't eaten anything since that dirt-flavored jelly bean. Kind of put a damper on my appetite," she said, grimacing at the memory.
She scanned the table again, looking for food and/or Alex. "Alex is probably stretching her legs somewhere too," Melanie concluded, before turning to look at the Slytherin table. She thought she spotted the back of Conrad's head conversing with a blonde girl, but brown hair is the most common color and she couldn't be sure it was him.
Turning away from the maybe-Conrad, Melanie looked back at Silvia. "So, what do you think of all this," she asked, gesturing at the Great Hall around her. "Crazy, right? I can't believe that ceiling..." she trailed off breathlessly, gazing up at the glowing stars above.
