"I got some of everything!" she announced, grabbing a licorice wand and gesticulating towards the pile to imply that they could grab whatever they liked too.
She settled back into her seat as she unwrapped the foreign candy. "I ran into the Hufflepuff quidditch captain on my way back. Keefer...something or other. He seemed nice; helped me carry all this stuff back here," she said before taking a bite of the licorice wand. It tasted like...licorice. Kind of anti-climactic for her introduction to wizard-world candy.
"Thanks!" said Silvia, and she reached over and grabbed a chocolate frog from the pile. "Alex or I will have to buy the snacks next time. Or do you want us to pay you back for our share now?"

He could feel himself staring, but at the same time, he couldn't make himself stop. To distract himself, Conrad tried to make conversation.
"So, um" he mumbled, prying his eyes from the shiny wrappers and packaging, "What houses are you three in?"
"Hello," Silvia greeted.
'Another possible friend?' she wondered. Making friends might be easier than she thought it would be.

"We're only first-years; we haven't been sorted yet," she replied, her tone reflecting her offense at his candy-oogling. However, not wanting to spoil a first impression, Melanie quickly attempted to soften the remark by elaborating. "I think I'll be in Ravenclaw or Gryffindor, though, because those are the houses my family have always been in."
As an even further gesture of making nice, she waved a hand toward the pile of snacks. "Er...would you like some candy? We have plenty," she offered. Nothing made new friends like candy, right?
Both my parents were in Gryffindor," said Silvia. "But they think I'll be in Ravenclaw because I read so much. I've already started reading some of my school books."
