Melanie pulled her attention away from the rather disappointing licorice wand to see a boy standing in their compartment door. He looked to be about their age except for the fact that he was taller than the average 11-year-old, although that could have just been because Melanie was sitting down. She noticed his eyes flit to the pile of candy with a greedy glint, and Melanie briefly regretted sitting them on the seat closest to the door. Still, not wanting to be rude, she nodded.

"Sure, come on in," she answered, smiling lightly at the stranger. "I'm Melanie," she said, touching the tips of her fingers to her collarbone, "and this is Alex and Silvia." She gestured to each of the other girls respectively, and briefly considering introducing the animals before deciding that might seem crazy.
