Meanwhile Silvia reached into her bag and took out a few owl treats. Her barn owl Ptolemy was resting quietly in his cage on the rack at the other end of the compartment, but she didn't want him to be left out once they got their snacks. So she carefully stepped on the seat so she could reach him and slipped the treats in the cage, then returned to her seat to await Melanie's return.

Melanie awkwardly pushed the compartment door open with her elbow, trying not to collapse the teetering pile of candy she was cradling in her arms. Grateful that the door closed by itself, she tipped the junk food onto the closest empty seat, not sure how much longer she could avoid being clumsy.

"I got some of everything!" she announced, grabbing a licorice wand and gesticulating towards the pile to imply that they could grab whatever they liked too.

She settled back into her seat as she unwrapped the foreign candy. "I ran into the Hufflepuff quidditch captain on my way back. Keefer...something or other. He seemed nice; helped me carry all this stuff back here," she said before taking a bite of the licorice wand. It tasted like...licorice. Kind of anti-climactic for her introduction to wizard-world candy.
