Alexander looked at the man, still with an expression of disapproval. He wasn't completely satisfied with Recard's attempt at respect, but then again, he had a bit more to say himself. "You'll also note, Mr. Recard, that when I'm ready to explain to you what you've been called in here for, I'll tell you. Until then, your position is to politely await for that to happen," he said.

He paused and let a few seconds drag by for added effect. "You were called in here today, because at this point, you have two options. You will decide your choice while sitting right in that very chair and in this very office," he continued. "First off, you're fired, Recard. I will accept no questions, further comments, or plea bargains on that decision," he said, passing the man a piece of paper. It was a written declaration of his firing; or a copy of said document, actually. "Your first option is to accept your having been fired by gathering your belongings immediately and permanently ceasing to enter this building."

Again, he paused, giving Recard time to read over the notice. "Your second option is to accept your having been fired as department head and then come to work here on level one," he added. "Your job title will be...Gopher." Yes, Gopher. "Meaning, if the Minister needs anything done, you go for it. Anything at all, Recard, and as a matter of fact, I have your first assignment right here." He passed the man a second piece of paper before adding, "...and we'll see how you do in time. Perhaps...you can earn back the respect this Ministry once gave you." He sat back in his chair and waited for the decision to be made.
