It always would.
But in the end, Nickolas couldn't refuse anything she asked. He never could. And he found himself on the doorstep to the home, hand lingering above the doorbell. For a good five minutes he stood solid as a statue, debating whether showing up on the doorstep was good enough. Finally however, with the knowledge that others might show - given he knew he was making his appearance early - his heavy hand fell in two solid thuds on the door.
Maybe she wasn't home and he wouldn't have to do this.
