Jez scanned the hall. More people had come in, and with them more house-elves. She needed answers, but she knew better than to ask the elves when they were trying to work. You couldn't get a straight answer out of Jik and Gaggy, her family's house-elves, when they had cooking on their minds. Jez's stomach suddenly swooped. "Oh no ..." she whispered. What had happened to the poor elves when her family had been kidnapped? Had they been forced along? Had the kidnappers had the heart to let them go (doubt it)? Or had they just been ruthlessly murdered? Jez bit her lip to stop herself from crying. Those poor, poor little creatures ...
