Jack had to say he was embarrassed (NOT an unusual experience for him) though he wasn't sorry. "Sorry," he said quietly, his eyes fixed on a speck on the floor. He touched the speck with his foot, but when he moved it was still there. Stupid speck. "Sorry, I just... I just... I, um..." He didn't know what to say, so he thought hopefully she might say something instead.
