"Not at all, he insists that I act like a child which is rather ludicrous in my opinion. However I've been trying to convince him otherwise as of late." But clearly that wasn't helping since his father hadn't believed a word that he had said, more frustration came from that situation which was quite annoying to deal with. And now it seemed like he was back to square one with Stella trying to figure out what they were, since the idea of actually being a couple wasn't exactly taken in good spirits nor was the idea that they were just friends because clearly they were more than that. "Well now my thought of a grey zone doesn't seem so stupid. But maybe it does seem like I might be a little too far ahead in thought with the whole dating idea, I mean honestly I would like for us to end up that way sometime but with the craziness going on in school; asking you out on an actual date just never seems to happen." Of course he was going to blame everything that had happened this term on the fact that he was too much of a chicken to actually consider the idea of a proper date with her, but at least there wasn't any idea of being rejected since he wasn't quite sure how to take that if it had happened.
After the whole mini awkward, confusing moment there; he couldn't help but yawn a bit, yeah this was really a good birthday. "Well I doubt that you need to worry about studying even though there's OWLs in addition to school exams. It just seems like my brain wants to tackle NEWT preparation even though that's not until next term, I'd rather just sleep since I seem to be making some mistakes with even the simplest study question." But he really didn't want to lose time with not being to study, though there was no way that he could continue going on this way since it was becoming quite ridiculous to not be able to sleep. Stella was still just confused as to how they'd ended up in this conversation. Not to mention, she still hadn't eaten, so while Matt had spoken, she picked up her toast and took a bite. Maybe getting food in her system would help make sense of things. Especially since she still couldn't see why his parents would think he was irresponsible. Are they brainwashed by his cousin? I'm sure she'd try to say he was crazy for liking me, or something. Maybe that's how his father thinks he's irresponsible, she thought, blinking as the idea both made sense and sounded ridiculous. She didn't even know his father, so why would she think he'd follow Matt's cousin's crazy ideas? "I think sleep might help. Not running yourself to exhaustion with studying..." And thinking about her and whatever relationship they were starting. That last thought hurt, which made her go back to her toast instead of blurting it out. Blurting something like that out definitely wasn't going to help. She looked at him again as he'd continued speaking however. "Maybe we should just say we're, well, sort of dating? With an actual date on hold until we have time to actually think about having one?," she replied. At least, it had sounded like he thought they were somewhere between friends and the next step, which made her think that he might agree with her idea. She didn't mind waiting for him to actually feel ready to ask her out, not when they both had school to deal with. Studying, assignments... exams.
And she blinked again as he responded to her question about studying. Apparently he hadn't understood her concern over being behind, and she hoped part of that was just because he was exhausted. She'd caught the yawn, after all. "Starting that already is a good idea. Spreading it out so you're not cramming it all into next term, but you really don't need to worry about not being ready," she began, before slipping into French for a second, as her voice went softer at the same time. Her own confusion had deemed it necessary, it seemed. "J'ai la foi que vous allez faire bien quand ils viennent." Hopefully he'd understand. She definitely didn't want him collapsing from exhaustion, and at that thought she spoke again, going back to English. "Get some sleep, and then studying will actually be useful. It doesn't help if you don't understand what you're reading. If you're making mistakes." And it wouldn't help if she kept worrying about if he was sleeping, which she had a feeling she might end up doing after classes. If he didn't just end up falling asleep right now, which would be just as awkward.
