Only 5th - 7th years should be able to cast a corporeal Patronus, and even then only those students who are advanced and have worked at it. Don't be afraid to have your character NOT be able to cast one yet. Maybe they'll manage by the end of class, maybe not. Try to be realistic regarding your character's age and abilities. Ok so August didn't really know many of the 'famous' witches and wizards that the rest of the students had just spent so much time talking about and had just sort of sat there listening and making the occasional note here and there about them, guessing that they were pretty important.
Now they were going to look up some meanings of Corporeal Patronuses? Auggie couldn't wait until he could make one of his own but for now he would have to settle with looking at others and finding their meanings. So he searched for the one that Kurumi had mentioned, Kingsley Shacklebolt, Ministry of Magic security/Auror who helped with security of the minister and the muggle prime Minister as well as helping protect Harry Potter. Pretty impressive.
