They showed off too much. I dislike huge amounts of wealth on display." Elliot lived in a ENORMOUS MANSION and she had a large amount of wealth to her name, but the Morganzo's did not flaunt it. Sure, they definitely showed off here, brag there, but her home was not overgrown with jewels and gold and just pointless stuff all over the place. her mansion was neat, clean, and spacious. With a few statues here, a few there, some ancient paintings, and a dozen small rooms to keep their heirlooms that were kept locked at all times. The Morganzo's definitely did not want to show off to people their wealth when their name was all they were proud of. "I mean, we don't do that, and we probably have more money than that school altogether." And it probably was true. Elliot didn't know for sure how rich they were, and she didn't think she would ever find out. Elliot found money pointless, and was much more interested in keeping up to her family's standards.
Exact. Exactly! Ha. Elliot smirked a bit. "This is true. I find math pointless, though. We can do magic...why do we need math? Besides the initial stuff, like addition and subtraction?" Eh. Elliot hopefully would have servants to do idle math for her in the future, if she ever needed.
Latin was pretty helpful to know for certain spells, Cora was right. "Yeah, it is. My father's brilliant with Latin. I wish I could be...but.." well, she wasn't in his good graces right now. She lowered her eyes back to her messy stupid cuffs, and considered just chopping them off. NO. That would make them messier...she attempted to concentrate on something other than her father. Just thinking about how angry he was at her was making her want to go mad, insane! Cora thought about what Elliot had said. She really hadn't been to Beauxbatons, but she was pretty sure she wouldn't fit in there anyway. She would simply have felt out of place. For her, the decision was obvious, ever since the moment she was born. She grew up hearing about the wonders of Hogwarts. All of her family had gone there, and Cora cared very deeply about her family.
Cora could remember learning to read, and glancing through books that showed Hogwarts's greatest features. It just had so much...history.
Thinking back to Beauxbatons, Cora agreed, "Yes, I suppose it does seem gaudy." Cora was sort of glad that Elliot didn't like things too gaudy. It seemed odd to Cora that Elliot thought this way, especially since Elliot's family clearly COULD be gaudy if they had wanted. It made Cora a little uncomfortable. The Clearwater's were definitely well off, but they mostly just had enough to live comfortably. They were always very secretive about personal affairs, which is partly why Cora was rarely allowed out of the house. But they were by no means rich. Cora didn't mind much, she was content with how much she had. "There's no sense of showing off, I agree." Cora said with a smile. She was glad Elliot felt this way for the most part. "Magic is helpful for a lot of things. But I'm not quite advanced enough to use magic for EVERYTHING." This was a bit of an understatement, since Cora was no where NEAR where she wanted to be in terms of her studies. But Cora did have high standards for herself, and was probably simply not confident enough yet.
Elliot trailed off. "But?" Cora asked politely. "But what? I'm sure your Latin is way better than mine. You have nothing to be worried about." Cora smiled. She really did like Elliot. |
