| Zombie Apocalypse Team Leader ★ ★ in a crown of pepperoni and artisan cheese SPOILER!!: Gnaeus Spenser "Correct. No Dark Magic is allowed in formal duels, especially the Unforgivable Curses. Those should never be used." Yep, it was necessary... "NEVER!!!" He eyed the students, attempting to inflict enough fear on them to make them pee their pants whenever they heard, or even thought about, the word 'unforgivables.' "It's not always required, and it's not one of the standard rules. However, it is an important aspect of dueling. It shows just can dangerous it can be, but you needn't worry about that." Maybe just a little. "Yes, the object is first to disarm your opponent. However, in some cases dealing some mild damage will help, so a jinx or a hex here and there is inevitable. Then, you must take possession of their wand, this is the only way to acquire temporary ownership of it, and end the duel." Of course, the wands then returned to their original masters.
Gnaeus chuckled. "Well, yes. The first to cast goes first." It wasn't a rule, it was a matter of speed, really. "YES! I-I mean, no, but yes." That answer caught Gnaeus off guard, but he was glad the boy brought it up. "It's not a rule, but a requirement. We will get to it in a bit." He said and winked at the boy. Good thinking. These Slytherins quite an impressive bunch. "Yes, naturally. No cheating." He confirmed. "Yes, bowing." He nodded, that had been already covered. "Absolutely no physical contact between the duelists." "You can, but it certainly is a bore to see the same thing over and over again!" Not that he wanted to worry about style, at least not yet, maybe for the next meeting. OOC: That's an OOC rule, but kudos for reading them "Yes and no. The presence of bowing is not what makes a duel formal, but it is necessary. Many wizards in informal duels bow to each other, too." "So here are the rules we have covered, and some of the ones you have missed." He expected them to know the simple ones, such as bowing and no physical contact, but others weren't as common. He pulled his wand from inside his robes and tapped his staff with it. The staff began to levitate then transfigured into a blackboard. "Are those clear to everyone? If you have any questions in regards to the rules feel free to ask now or whenever they come up."
"Now I would like to just take a few moments to explain this." He said and stomped his foot twice. He was talking about the lunar phase stage. "Duelists begin here." He was standing in the middle of it, where the full moon was positioned. "Then, both duelists will walk away from each other until they reach the star." There was a star at both ends of the stage. "There they take their positions and begin to duel. As the duel proceeds the participants may walk closer to each other, but neither duelist may walk past the full moon, into the other duelist's area. Understood?" That was fairly simple, but if they had questions they could ask. "Before we begin, there's something else that needs to be done." He gestured to the Slytherin boy, then spoke. "As Mister Kim mentioned, your wands must be in perfect condition. In tournaments, there will be a qualified wand expert or wandmaker to analyse the wands. This process is known as wand weighing. Now, I am no expert, but I will do my best to check your wands and make sure that they are suitable for dueling." He put his own wand away, and walked to the edge of the stage. "Make a line here, and bring me your wands." OOC: Please make sure that you have a wand in your profile under "Wand Type" before you post your character showing Gnaeus his or her wand. It can be the one you received from Ollivander's Shop or you can make one up. After handing the wand don't walk away, it will take only a few moments.
Marilyn eyed the Professor warily. She really didn't like other people touching her things...but she suppose this could be the one exception. Moving forward, she got a better view of the stage and the full moon he'd mentioned.
She really hoped she could do well at this.
Getting in line, she moved to pull out her wand. When she'd seen the paper about Dueling Club the day before, she'd decided to clean it. Not that it was dirty of anything. Not really...
Ugh, hopefully he would go fast. She did NOT like the idea of someone else handling her wand.
