And older students, please, if you will, clarify the difference between the terms Arithmancy and Numerology? How do these terms relate and intertwine with one another?"
ooc: lesson has begun. Any posts of your character entering late WILL be subjected to point loss. So please, pretend as though you've been here the whole time =)
Penny listened intently to the Professor, and thought about the question...
Putting her hand in the air she piped in her opinion on the matter..
"Professor, Arithmancy is all about the magical properties of numbers and what they mean to each person - because it uses important dates to that person, and indicates when important events will happen"......
Penny took a breath and continued
"I think Numerology is the study of numbers and mesurements as they relate to ones everyday life - but isn't Numerology a muggle thing?" Quote:

"When studying any number for Arithmancy, it is important to keep certain things in mind. What do I mean by the Order of Operations?" Hadley posed as the next question. To all students, of course.
Penny remembered something about this in her muggle maths class.. she searched her memory for anything that could or would be helpful..
Putting her hand in the air, she ventured a guess
"Professor I remember something about Parenthesis, multiplication, dividing and subtraction and addition" ...Penny drew a blank on the rest though..

Using a mnemonic. As August here mentioned, the order of operations can be summed up using the mnemonic, PEMDAS. Which stands for, Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication & Division, Addition & Subtraction. The classic muggle phrase for this, which some of you might be familiar with is 'Please excuse my dear Aunt Sally.'" Hadley frowned slightly.
"I don't know about you, but I don't have an Aunt Sally. So what I want you to do is create your own phrase. Wizardfy it. Make it personal to you. Something that you can remember when we get to calculating numbers."
ooc: create your own phrase for the mnemonic, PEDMAS. Be creative. Have fun with it. Jess is going to sleep, to allow others in different timezones to partake in the lesson, so you have probably about 8-9 hours to work on this, before we progress . . . =)
Penny nodded at her own forgetfulness,
"PEMDAS...yes of course", she silently scolded herself...
Wizardfy PEMDAS?....
Parenthesis..........Penny
Exponents............Enjoys
Multiplication........Muggle Studies and
Division................Divination and
Addition...............Arithmancy
Subtraction..........Seriously
Penny knew that she would remember that for sure - because it was all her favourite subjects....
