Ashley couldn't imagine letting anyone get away with such treachery, no matter how old they were. If they were old enough to doublecross him, they were old enough to deal with him being angry about it. But this wasn't his family. Maybe the little brother had his ways of manipulating people. Perhaps by being very cute. He didn't know. So he just let it go for now.
At the questioning of his trouble-free lifestyle, he just smiled again, opting to pretend he was too busy moving on to her other questions to bother getting into that conversation. He could end up incriminating himself accidentally, if he tried to go on about it. Somehow that kind of thing just happened at times.
"Ah, no not really. My mother was busy with lots of things, but..." he paused there, trying to come up with a way to explain it without making it sound like she didn't care or neglected him somehow. Even if that was true, it wasn't generally something one went around telling everyone. "She made time to make sure I had my lessons," he continued, nodding with approval at his own choice of words. "What do your parents do?" Since they were talking about being busy and everything, it seemed like a good question.

"Oh," Ashley said, quieting for a moment since that was a pretty good answer, and he just didn't have anything else to say about it.
