"I think back hundreds of years ago we used to use birds to deliver mail... or I might have read that in a story, I can't remember."
Electricity. Now that was more difficult to explain. To Olivia it was just something that had been there all her life. In school she'd learnt about watts and stuff, and how some metals conducted electricity. They'd done experiments where they had to make their own circuits, but they hadn't learnt much more. It was something they did in secondary school, somewhere she would no longer be going.
"Electricity is difficult to explain. I only really learnt about circuits and stuff at school. It's like you turn on a switch and there's wires made of metal that conduct the electricity and then the light or whatever switches on."
Maybe if she wrote home her parents could send her work and information that'd she'd be learning if she wasn't here.
"Wow!" Jezabel's eyes were as wide as the dinner plates. She lent her elbows on the table. "So is that how a television works? And a car? That's amazing!" How Muggles survived without magic, she just didn't know - but she was sure trying! "I've heard your sweets are different too." She suppressed a shudder. "No Chocolate Frogs!"

"Don't worry" Scott said reassuringly. "Everyone makes mistakes" He smiled.
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!" That spellcasting was going to need a bit of work. But Jezabel was really glad Scott was being so nice about it. "So, are you a fan of wandlore too?" she asked.

"Really? I think Charms will be awesome! I've never tried Divination before, what's it about?" Jezabel made a mental note to go to the library and get a book on Divination as soon as possible. But for now she was glad she was finally getting Jerrod out of the 'nervous deer' zone. "What kind of owl is Dave?"

"Yep. Isn't Hogwarts so exciting?" Jezabel grinned. More new friends! "My brothers and sisters have told me so much about it already, I almost feel as though I know it all already! Do you have any siblings here?"
