I keep seeing people who are angry that Pottermore didn't follow through on "first come first served," and would like to point out that that was written with regard to activating your account. They wrote something like "please act quickly because places are first come, first served." That is, even though you made an account after finding the Magical Quill, if you were not quick enough in clicking the link in your activation e-mail, you might lose your place. That was the point of that.

Pottermore never promised that Day 1 sign-ups would get in first.
