Neptune tried to capture The Hufflepuff's shriek, and definitely the emphasized way the girl had thrown pronoun after pronoun around to indicate Neptune instead of using her name.

"She HATES me. I ... just... I didn't mean to ... I'm confused about why I'm supposed to be mad at you? Did you do something I missed?" Because Neptune couldn't come up with a single reason to be mad at HIM.

Neptune took a deep breath, let it out slow, and refocused on the Slytherin.

"I'm sorry. You don't have to go." Pause pause. "Hi. How are you?"

She even managed a little smile, realizing that.... she'd probably never see Marie again. Not that THAT was why she was smiling, but a reminder that she should be nice and leave good last impressions.
