Shock over her apology, amusement over everything that had just happened, and endearment for the way the colour of her face seemed to be matching the colour of her hair.
"Oh, thank you," muttered the Gryffindork with a lopsided smile as Ruby helped him rest his back against the bench, beside the table. That felt SO much better.
… Wait, WHAT?!
First Ruby was apologizing, now she was
helping him?! Kinda even…
taking care of him?! WHAT?!

(Note how Braeden finds THIS shocking but hasn't even thought about the kiss).
The boy said nothing, though. He didn't want to risk it; maybe, if he was lucky, he could get a massage out of Ruby as well. Oh, his shoulders and back could sure use one after that fall…
Anyway.
He listened quietly as Ruby explained to him what had happened. The boy had pulled a Troll!Brae by not being specific in his question, and now smirked as the flustered Ruby tried to explain what had taken place. "So it was real!" was the boy's first reaction, his bushy eyebrows raising so high that they got lost in his lion's mane hairline. "I… I thought I'd imagined that!" he went on with a grin, as if this was great new--WAIT A SECOND. He had a GIRLFRIEND. THIS WAS
NOT GREAT NEWS, BRAEDEN STONEM!!

As he realized this, the boy's grin faded abruptly and his eyes covered up his whole face. Passing a couple fingers over his lips, as if to verify that the kiss had really happened, Braeden stared at the floor for a moment before looking back up at Ruby.
AND NOW, the million-
dollar-galleon question! Brace thyself.
.
.
.
"… Why?"
Ruby glared at his Troll!face as he confirmed her story. REALLY?! -__- He had made her repeat it, repeat that horrible mess, EVEN THOUGH HE ALREADY KNEW WHAT HAPPENED?! Okay, now she was back in Ruby mode. For maybe a a minute.
The lioness whacked him on the shoulder when he thought he imagined it all.
"You're such a troll, Brae!" She said, annoyed. Well, at least no one heard them. Which wasn't any comfort as the whole hall probably saw them. Ruby scanned the crowd for a familiar face
Theo, Alfie, Emma but she found none. As she turned to tell Brae this, she noticed his face--he was passing his hand over his lips as if reliving the moment or something. OHGAWWWD.
She inched forward so she was right in front of his face and then pulled his hand away from his mouth. She didn't need him making things WORSE than they already were. The look on his face, though, was funny--his eyes were so huge, she thought they might drop off his face any second. Clearly, the idea that Braeden was NOT a single man had been wiped from Ruby's brain, though she
had thought about it only minutes ago.
And then there was his question--WHY? WHY?! Why indeed. But she didn't know if he was talking about the kiss, or the jamming. ...Okay, so he was probably asking about the kiss, no doubt, but she liked lying to herself; it saved her the embarrassment. Swallowing, Ruby just stared at goofball for a whole 30 seconds, hoping he might forget he even asked her that.
...
But as he just stared back at her with his big 'ole eyes, Ruby Blair sighed. She still didn't know what to say. Deep down (and I mean, deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep down), she knew that a little part of her black heart was being reborn; you could see the redness replacing that tiiiny portion. And that tiny portion belonged to the lion sitting before her--Goofball Stonem. But there was no way in hell she was going to repeat this information to him--heck, she'd die first. So Ruby thought it was appropriate to just...ignore his question. Play dumb. Yep, that
always worked. Right? Right.
"Hey, I think the headmaster is going to be speaking soon; we should get back in our seats," She said nonchalantly as she got up. But as good as Ruby was at paying dumb, her face could sometimes give her away. The lioness tried to hide her pink features with her hair to no avail. Making a face, she lent Brae a hand in order to help him up.
"C'mon."
