It became apparent in his voice that it hurt him to talk about it, but he didn't want to show it. Every time someone asked him about his parents, he said it was alright and allowed the conversation to be about them. Each time, he truly did believe that he was going to be fine this time and it wouldn't hurt as much as it did the last time, but each time he found out just how wrong he was to assume he could talk about them just like that.

Pres could tell that this was a sensitive subject so she quit it. "Hey, sorry. We don't need to talk about it. I shouldn't have asked." She for once didn't bitterly think "Yeah, you've got it so rough, at least you have both parents." She just felt bad that she'd caused this pain to resurface in someone. She could fully understand how that felt. She searched around i her head for a new subject to direct the conversation away from his family life, but came up with nothing good. She just sat there stupidly, saying nothing, and hoping he would change the subject.
