But there were only two he'd managed to carry on meaningful conversations with. The fun, carefree and innocent Ness -- and Isobel.
He cleared his throat. "Of course I like her," he added. "And even if the possibility were there for me to care more for her," (not admitting that) "The fact remains that I've seen her with someone else. Another guy."
Damien was suddenly aware that Lockhart knew Isobel. They were both on the Quidditch team. No names had been mentioned, and yet it was almost as if the sudden insecurity and vulnerability would give it away. Treyen didn't seem like the type to make fun. Of anyone for that matter. The two boys had never had this deep of a conversation before; involving what could be a touchy subject. Opening up to tell Treyen who he'd begun to care for so much was (as the Prefect mentioned before) a risk.
Pausing for a moment, Damien rubbed the back of his neck. "We're friends -- don't you think so?" He meant it to sound more of a statement then a question. Lockhart might think Damien to believe they weren't. "I mean --" he began again. "You are a friend to me, Trey."
Yeah, that's not what he'd been meaning, truth be told, but that's the kind of answer one got for asking in a non-straight-forward way. It had helped him as a prologue to the topic he'd now need to attend to. Which was...Damien liking this girl. Whoever she was. But she must be a pretty nice for Damien to like her, really.
Treyen knew many, many girls, better not to mention that.
He half-smiled as he admitted his liking for the girl. The smile soon disappeared when he thought of the recent events in his life,
"Do you know if they're really together?" that was too important.
"Did she tell you she chose him?" he doubted that had happened, though.
Treyen couldn't help it, he smiled when Damien agreed of what he'd been talking about with Nessie a week ago or so, where Treyen and Nessie considered Damien a friend, but they didn't know if it also worked the other way around.
"I don't think you need me to state the obvious, but, yes, I think of you as a friend," the silent one, even if Chandler didn't talk much either but that's because his girlfriend talked on his behalf way more.
