"Oh, everything was fine," said Brae with a shrug when she asked about his break. "Didn't really do anything crazy or out of the ordinary… played around at making some short films," he said. He wished he could tell her a more interesting story, but he had nothing. Besides, he was too nervous. And why was he nervous, anyway?! This was Charlie, for Merlin's sake!
And then she was asking him about that promise he'd made last term.
Braeden felt a brick drop into his stomach at that moment, and his expression filled with both surprise and guilt - guilt that he hadn't kept his word and surprise that Charlie remembered that promise. Gah… she hadn't actually… waited for him or anything, had she? Sigh. When exactly had it been that they began to drift apart? It was so strange. He couldn't point at a specific time when he looked back on it now.
"I'm sorry…" he muttered, looking like a little boy who'd just been caught stealing candy. "I… I-- just-- I-- Well--" His right hand messed around with his lion's mane in nervousness. "To be honest, I don't have an excuse," he finally confessed, looking up from the ground and to the Hufflepuff girl. Who would hopefully not punch him in the face for being a big fat promise-breaker.
Charlie smiled at Braeden's awkward explanation. "No worries about it. I just thought it was an interesting thing to say to someone you had just met." Her hand reached for his arm before gently touching it after a slight hesitation, "I'm sorry I didn't stay in touch. I meant to but then. . . well. . . I . . . I guess I don't know why I didn't." Feeling ashamed of her lack of friendship to a boy who had never been anything but nice to her, the transfer student, Char hung her head looking at the ground.
The two had drifted apart shortly after getting together, for no other reason than inattention. Charlie had a feeling that is was mostly due to her scatter brain. She glanced to one side then the other, before looking at Braeden, "Do you fancy getting something to eat?" With a shy smile, Charlie hoped he did.
