The more logic explanation, of course, would be that Prefects knew students because they were authorized people. Although this one was a Hufflepuff O_o did he need to memorize all students' names from every house? Hopefully not, she wouldn't be so happy to be a Prefect herself if it was true.

She didn't comment on him knowing her name because he made a very smart remark right after that. Sarcasm intended. "Yes, I can see that," She pointed at the badge on his chest. "I was wondering if you could help me out a bit in this paragraph of Transfiguration.." She started opening the book, ".. I won't take much of your time, really, I only need to understand what they mean by this." She held out the book to him and prayed to Merlin that he wouldn't shoo her away or claim to have more important business to do... because then she would use her not-so-polite attitude against him and risk losing points.

Being an Animagus is an ability, and Transfiguring requires a spell.
