First of all, thanks to Snitchseeker for the nice thread.
I want the people who are able to watch it in theaters to know how lucky they are.
The chance to watch it in theater...
Not everyone has that chance. I'm in Iran, and I have to wait months to get the DVD...
THAT SUCKS!! It's well worth the wait though!
and it's so sad that this is how I'll have to say goodbye to the series I literally grew up with.
Anyway,
I have ten questions from the friends who've watched it. Sorry it's a lot, I just wanna know how the movie is...
1) Among the trio who acted the best?
Definitely Rupert Grint! He is wonderful throughout. His ability to carry the emotional ride while still delivering the comedy spot on is great. I'd say he definitely doesn't have the emotional range of a teaspoon here! LOL
2) How long was the Prince's Tale part, and what was Harry's reaction afterward?
It's not terribly long. Maybe 15 miutes at most. However, it is done so well it is stunning. It was the portion that caught me emotionally more so than any other.
I mean, in the book he sort of jumped out of the memories and he fell to the floor and all... was his reaction like in the book?
He doesn't fall to the floor, but the sinking dread he feels upon finding out he must die is huge. Daniel plays the part amazingly.
3) The scene of Lily's death, was there any dialogs like the part in the book?
There is a little dialogue- it;s more of a few monologues from Lily and Snape. Alan Rickman is steller in his performance! I've always liked him and his work, but this is mind blowing. The heart wrenching pain he emits is enough to bring a statue to its knees.
4) Can you tell me about King's Cross part? How was it?
Kings Cross was ok at best. Not one of my favorite parts. Spoiler- if you were hoping to see Harry nude, so doesn't happen!
However, the dialogue between Harry and Dumbledore is well written.
5) Is it true they say the movie is even better than the book?
I don't know about better. I like each for its own reasons. The effort they have made to make the movies an event unto themselves is well appreciated here. I love the story line in the book. However, it seems to drag a bit at times just due to the sheer amount of information she gives in it. The movie is visually stunning and fast paced. There are draw backs there as well. It's easy to miss something (like the part of Lavender. I didn't realize that was her until some one pointed it out on this list. Going to watch it again tonight and will pay closer attention to that part!).
6) Was King's Cross shown right after Harry's DEATH?
Yes- the screen goes black and lightens to a white misty location and pans down to Harry. The visual of Voldermort is grotesque. Do the audience know by the time the procession part begins, that Harry's actually alive?
Harry's "revival" is a little different here. They show Hagrid carrying Harry. When Voldemort is distracted, Harry jumps out of Hagrid's arms and goes into action. How did he come to life in front of the others?
7) Is it better in 2D or 3D? or both...?
The 3D is awesome. It is not the typical flying at your face 3D. It's much more a 3 dimensional depiction. It was very well done. It makes the few "fly in your face" portions carry more weight for their limited use.
8) How was the epilogue; who acted the best in the part? How was the makeup and atmosphere?
I am really glad they re-did the epilogue. It is a very short portion, though. The make up is much more subtle. It relies more on the actors' parts to carry the persona. I will say Daniel shined here. You don't expect to suddenly see him in the father image, but he plays it well. I guess it's not that big of a surprise considering he recently announced he wants lots and lots of kids!
9) Was there any of famous scenes or dialogs changed majorly? Any scenes added? Were they good? Did you hate any changes, or love any?
Wow- that's a loaded question! I might have to see it a few times to truly give the answer it's deserved reply. Having said that, my over opinion of the movie was AMAZING. It has shot to the top of my list. Up until now,Goblet of Fire was my favorite. Not any more. The changes that are done are more in keeping with the previous movies. There is no where near the detail. You don't have a portion of the movie dedicated to the death of each character. It's more of an over all feeling of loss you get. They do kill a few extra people that aren't mentioned in the book. I really liked the comedy in the movie. The Room of Requirement comedy is my favorite! Rupert hit the nail on the head, as they say, with that scene!
10) Can you explain the "Price's Tale" and "the Forest Again" parts as much as you can please?
The Prince's Tale is a short portion before the big finale. It covers very quickly all the things Harry needs to know to understand Snape in a manner we've never known before. You suddenly get a greater appreciation for what he has done over the years. I would be willing to say that Alan's performance brings home the true feeling of loss and endurance through the years more so than in the book. The Forest scene is much more stunted than the book. It's about 5 minutes long at best. Truly, though, all you really need to see and know is that Harry gives himself up in an effort to protect those he loves. That protection really isn't explained as well in the movie, either. I felt it was important to show that his sacrifice prevents Voldemort from hurting anyone else.
Again, sorry they're too many.
