As Elinor picked up the key and flipped on the muggle device, she smiled. "Detective, you are welcome to use whatever methods you find necessary..." Placing the key on the stage, it's enhanced image showed up on the screen. She turned the key so that, in the light, one could see tiny ruts in it where it had been slid in and out of the lock many times.
"...but I find this to be a pretty useful way of getting information.", she finished. "These long scratches here are the opening of the keyhole. These smaller ones are the inside of the lock." She grabbed a blank piece of parchment and a quill from the desk and, steadying her left hand, which held the key, began a sketch of the keyhole--or what she suppossed it to look like, based on the longer scratches.
She slid the somewhat crude drawing aside to Benjamin. "There's your keyhole. Your key obviously goes to a door, according to the more complex scratches, rather than a box or a cabinet or something like that. But the key, itself is so simple in design, whatever it unlocks isn't trying to be that heavily guarded," she guessed, removing the key and switching off the device.
Of course, she hadn't been in her detective work for a few years now, so she didn't want to sound like she really knew what she was doing, so she decided to play it safe by adding-- "But that's just me -- You, detective, are the man with the badge."
