Penny checked the instructions again (she was very determined not to do this wrong)...
With her small shovel, she loosened the soil at the bottom of the hole as indicated, then with her gloved right hand, put in a sprinkle of dragon dung....wrinkling her nose at the smell..
She lightly watered the soil, making it damp but not wet...
