This could mean levitating the target, giving it wings, changing its size or colour and so on. Remember that a charm does not change the inherent nature of an object - that is transfiguration. Transforming an object into, or reverting an object to, one that has a different set of vital functions - like a cup into a mouse - and conjuring objects out of nothingness is all part of transfigurational magic."
"Keeping that in mind, do you think there are some spells studied as charms, that could be called transfigurational spells? Or where the boundaries between Charms and Transfiguration blur?"
Roderigo sat there in his seat in the back. He reflected as the other students raised their hands and gave their input on the Professor's question. Brows furrowing slightly, he pondered what
else could linger on the fine line between Charms and Transfiguration. Some Gryffindor first-year boy had definitely got one, the Protean Charm. How did he know about those? Roderigo had been studying those just a few days ago, and he was a seventh-year. He shook his head. There had to be more, he thought. A girl farther ahead of him mentioned a hex. Roderigo recognized her as his house's Prefect. And, as if on cue, the light bulb clicked inside his head. His hand shot up into the air.
"Well, Professor," he said, "Another example could be the Bat-Bogey Hex, couldn't it? Enlarging your opponent's bogeys would definitely entail the use of a charm. But the fact that the bogeys grow wings and
attack your opponent, well that would grant them physical attributes they did not possess before. Thus, it would have similarities to Transfiguration...although the bogeys remain bogeys...." his voice dwindled slightly as he came to the realization at the end. He lowered his hand, hoping his answer was at least somewhat correct.
