Those flags were...really creepy, to put it quite simply. No wonder people usually tried to stay away from pirates. Who wanted to be around people who designed creepy things like that?

But anyway, on to the question.

Vashti raised a hand. "Several of them have two of a certain object, mainly the two crossed bones and swords. Obviously those could stand for violence and death to scare away other ships, but I think it could also stand for the unity and loyalty within the ship's crew and those times when several different pirate ships would band together. I mean, they could've just put one bone or sword on there and the threat of death would still come through, but instead there are two, as if they knew they couldn't do all those things that they did on their own and wanted to show that."
