Jacobs stare became very amused.
"So what your saying is that, that hat belongs to a worthy captain." he started
"And you think that mean yourself?"
The hat might not be for Jacob... but the gryffindor seemed to be challenging Jacobs skills of the seas. No One Challenged Jacob's Sailing skills!
"I have ten times more right to have that hat than you. I willing to bet you've never even sailed on a proper ship." Maybe the ones that Lainey had made them do, but not a proper one.
Jacob assumed the boy wanted the hat for himself... and Jacobs assumptions were always right!
