She honestly considered it none of his business. At the same time, though, she was just dying to tell somebody, and if it was going to be anybody, it was at least going to be someone in her own family. "So, uhh...," she started to say, almost gaining enough confidence to tell him everything. He interrupted her thoughts, though, and so she just nodded instead. "Oh, yeah. I just came from the pitch," she answered. "Okay, forget about Quidditch for a few minutes." She glanced quickly around her and then dashed forward, coming to a stop by Alex. "I should do this quickly before I change my mind. There's something you should know."
Then she leaned forward and whispered into his ear, "..." AHA! He KNEW that she had something she needed to tell him. Hmmm, this looked serious. Alex folded his notebook and leaned in when she whispered in his ear.
He listened intently, and then he just...blinked. Stunned. He sat there, staring at her, blinking his big brown eyes at her in shock. That was just...no. No way. But she said it was true--she'd even anticipated him doubting it. Because, of COURSE, who WOULDN'T doubt that?!
After what felt like an eternity, he finally found his voice again. "But I...they can't...why are YOU telling me this?" he finally asked. She was not the primary party involved in this nonsense, so why was it her responsibility to tell him?
Gah. He couldn't think. His thoughts were just swirling in his head. This was too much to take right now...did Mum know? Oh, he hoped she didn't. Not yet. He'd get over the shock eventually but he wasn't sure about his mother.
