She said that they would wait until the summer to get married. And that she would explain more later." Which were both total lies.
"So I get picked up from the train by my brother. He was the one who told me that she had went ahead and got married. She moved out and gave the house to Casey." She didn't understand why her mother couldn't have just told her, herself. She left it up to Casey to tell her. "I didnt even see she until a few weeks ago when I was in New York. She was there with him. I like him he is nice."
Braeden walked alongside Caroline at a slow pace (I'm going to assume they're at least walking around the courtyard and not just standing there in the middle of everyone's way), listening quietly and attentively to the story she shared with him. Wow. So her mum had gone and gotten married without even telling her? Without even letting her meet the guy first? Sounded… well, a little strange. But Braeden said nothing, taking on the role of listener here, not commentator.
But then Caroline shared that she eventually met the man in New York, and thought he was nice. Oh, good, so there was a good, happy part in this story. The corner of Braeden's lips curved up slightly in a half-smile, but he knew there was probably more coming so he shouldn't cheer just yet. "At least he didn't turn out to be a troll," he muttered with a smile, his brown eyes falling to their feet as they walked.
