As he said that, Gavin realised he had no idea what happened to his trunk either... What did his mum say about that? He just couldn't remember. He was so tired.

"Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, where is my trunk? I saw my cat with my trunk last," he said, very unsure of himself.

He may be half-blood but all things considered, he may have known more about Hogwarts if he had been a muggle.
