Ellie smiled at the girl. "Well that's good. I can't imagine how terrible that was, though..." She told her. Plus all the laying in bed aaaaall day long and eating soup for months straight. Ellie would not be okay with that. She beamed at Maddie. "Of course, I'd be glad to help you. What are friends for?" She said with a friendly wink. Sheesh, she was in a good mood today. Not that she was some angry freak every other day, but she was just... chipper today.
As Maddie began to copy down her notes, Ellie explained what they had been learning. "Well the first thing we learned in Charms was Mizurus Boru. Performing this charm at an object transforms the object into a ball, using the mosture in the air to put water in it. It can't actually conjure water since it's just a charm, but if there is mosture in the air or around you, like at the lake, then it would be much easier to fill." Ellie glanced over at Maddie to make sure she understood. It was all in the notes, but she was just clarifying. "Oh, and your intention HAS to be clear. You have to know exactly what you want it to turn out to be, which is a ball, holding water." She nodded and paused. "So the wand movement..." She took out her wand and demonstrated. "Is a circle clockwise and a circle counter-clockwise" She said, moving her wand in the motion. "Now you just need an object to practice on."
Ellie listened to Maddie tell her about herself and her life. She laughed a little when she said she loved muggle TV. "You live in France? That's really cool! I've never met anyone from there." She said casually. "I live in Ireland with my mum. She's a muggle." She said dully. "Not that I have anything against muggles, it's just... her." But it was all to complicated to explain right then. "So what TV shows do you like?" She asked, changing the subject.
Maddie smiled. She had officially made another friend! That bought her list of Ravenclaw friends up to... *drum roll*... two. She had two friends who were actually in her house. Wonderful. Not that she didn't like those two - Ellie and Timothy were really nice - but still. This was going to be the year she made more friends.
'Thanks, Ellie,' she said happily. This was great!
Maddie listened carefully as she wrote everything down, adding bits here and there to help her understand better. Mizrus Boru. She didn't really see how this spell could possibly be useful, but it sounded fun to do. She wrote down 'keep intention clear' in large letters, because that always seemed the hardest part to her. She'd be thinking of exactly what she wanted to happen, and then she'd get distracted by thinking about... oh, pink bunnies or something. Well, not pink bunnies. She copied the movement, tracing shapes in the air with her wand. When she thought she had it, she dug in her back and pulled out a pen that had run out of ink.
'Will this do?' she asked, setting it on the blanket.
'It's not that cool, really,' Maddie replied with a grin.
'We live out in the middle of nowhere. We barely even get reception for TV or phone,' she said, thinking of how irritating it was when you were halfway through an episode of FRIENDS and the TV suddenly went fuzzy.
'Oh, Ireland? I have a couple of relatives from there. I've never been, though,' she said. She'd heard it was beautiful there.
'So, are you muggleborn or half-and-half?' Maddie asked. She ignored the comment about Ellie's mother - she didn't want to pry, as there was obviously something going on there.
'I'm half-and-half myself. Mother's a muggle, Dad's a wizard,' she added. Hmmm... what TV shows didn't she like, that was the question!
'Well, I like the old ones that they do re-runs of. Gossip Girl, 90210, F.R.I.E.N.D.S, Glee... stuff like that. What about you? Do you watch TV?'
