Burin still in hand, Sierra nodded a few times in reply to what the professor had told her. Table-carving time now! She gently moved her wood off to the side and positioned the burin just above a clear spot on the table. With her open book on the left side and her burin in her right hand, Sierra paused and studied her text for a few moments before beginning.

...and a few seconds later,

Of course she'd started with this rune. After all, it'd been the one she had been working hard on perfecting all along. The first rune she'd thought of when it came to carving something that would be beneficial to her in this class. Eihwaz stood for defense, protection, change, and and transformation, and thoughts of those words and their meanings filled her head as she carved.

...she continued, until finally a backwards, slanted Z-looking figure was etched into the table. She withdrew her burin and admired her work. Eihwaz---her hope for this class.
