With attitudes like this, with no drive or passion, people got nowhere. For Amadeus, he had both the passion and the comfortable family situation. Even if he slacked off, he would still probably take over the family business. But being a Ravenclaw, he chose not to. Deus would never deign to act like the rich partying wizards and witches that wasted their money on vice, although Amadeus did like to have occasional fun.

"Well, what do you like? You must have some interests." He spoke the last few words derisively, almost as if he were speaking to a young child and that having hobbies was one of the most fundamental elements of life. Braeden wasn't necessarily like the other students: he had some weird charm about him. He might even be destined for something great in his life; if only he would break out of his shy shell, maybe he could progress.
Braeden could just see the judgements oozing out of the boy beside him. Deus didn't need to say a word, Brae could almost read his thoughts. But he wasn't offended; that was almost impossible to do. There was no way to insult Braeden; it was hard to wipe that goofy smile off his face. However, he couldn't help feeling a bit like a child being lectured by a strict parent when Amadeus asked what he liked, saying that he must've had some interests.

Hmm.

Braeden looked off into space thoughtfully as they walked for the next few moments, trying to figure out an answer for that question. What were his interests? Besides food, movies, and Divinations? He wasn't very good at potions, he was clumsy with his wand, and dealing with plants usually left him in the Hospital Wing. What was Braeden good at? "I think I'm going to get back to you on that one," he decided finally. "I'm still trying to decide which one I like better: movies or predicting the future," he said, and it was difficult to tell if he was kidding around or being serious. Though knowing Brae, he was probably serious. "But what about you?" he asked Deus. "You're going to take over the family business, but do you like making wands?" he asked, and upon realizing that Deus's role in the business probably wouldn't be to make wands, he added, "Or handling finances and that sort of thing?" He could see Deus being a businessman, though. He had that cold-blooded sort of thing going on, and if he was in Ravenclaw so he was obviously not dumb.
