In the 5th floor corridor, right outside the door to the Runes classroom is an alcove with a polished wooden bench set within it, wide enough for six or seven students to sit comfortably while waiting to enter the classroom or Truebridge's office. The alcove itself is decorated with all sorts of runes, there is barely a free patch of wood here, aside from the bench itself. The wood thrums under your fingertips and for as long as you are seated in the alcove, you feel calm, safe and comfortable. Furthermore, and perhaps a bit oddly, magic is sluggish here and in some cases spells simply will not work.

I wonder why?
