Adam had left her a long time ago, but Katie was still mopping- she was the one with the problems, Adam was avoiding her to get rid of the problem.

Demitri tilted his head to one side a little, then straightened up and nodded. "I'll...do my best." This Katie Star person must be pretty bad...from what he knew, not much could upset Selina or Adam. Anyone who could, must be no good.
Lowering his voice, Demitri replied, "Ah, well...you know my condition...it takes it's toll." He hadn't been feeling well lately, but when his friend noticed his sluggishness, he sat up straighter and tried to seem more perky. He didn't want anyone worrying over him.
He ran a hand through his messy, blonde hair and glanced out the window. He could hardly believe the term was starting, and the thought made him jittery. Not seeing his sister lately also made him jumpy - he wondered where she was.
