"I think photo is one...and might mean light," he suggested after raising his hand. But don't quote him, he was making at least half a guess. Quote:

"Phot or photo or a variation of the word, I can't remember which...'' Adi paused sheepishly. Moving on. "It means light.'' "Photo is not the Greek root, but that half of the word does mean light," Fina agreed, writing light on the board. Quote:

Paying attention might have been a good idea; she'd even say something to make sure she didn't look distracted. "Photo comes from the greek 'phos' meaning 'light' and graph....I dunno? Do we need that for the exam? Is it like picture or something? Would I fail without this?"
VERY serious question. Failure wasn't an option, you know? "Yes, good, photos comes from the Greek word Phos!" She nodded at the Head Girl, who it seemed was paying attention after all, as she wrote that on the board next to 'photo and light'. "And I think understanding the basic terminology is important for the actually task." So even if they weren't asked this directly on an exam, fundamentally it might be useful for task completion. Basically, all his recent studying and reading had... backfired. Or, more likely, Toby had seriously underestimated just how much time he needed to devote to Muggle Studies.
But... he had a vague understanding of this question, so put his hand up. "'Photo' is like... light-" as others had said "-and 'graph' is like... a drawing?" ... kinda like the Ian kid had said. But wait... "... Soooo does that mean a photo is kind of like a drawing made out of light? Especially when you have it on a camera display." "Graph is like drawing, yes.....and yes a photograph is precisely that. It is a drawing made from light. Excellent application and analogies there." Josephina nodded at his analysis. Quote:

Like CaliGRAPHy. So its like a light drawing! And that makes sense 'cause the film just records light." Which she had already said. In her OTHER correct answer. She was on a roll, yes she was.
So did she get a prize or something? She looked down at her feet. Ruby slippers would be nice. "Ah yes, interesting comparison. Photosynthesis has the word photo in there. Photo is light." Good, they were in agreement on at least half of the word. Quote:

When the question about the meaning of photography was presented, Jasmine raised her hand. "Photograpy comes from Greek words that combine to mean drawing with light." They would be practicing photography today. How the drawing with light fit in Jasmine wasn't quite sure. Since this was the last question, she guessed she'd fond out soon enough. "Yes." Hadley nodded at the claw prefect, writing drawing on the board. Quote:

Then -ography meant some type of art? He raised his hand and said his thoughts out loud. "Professor I know photo means like light and dealing with paper and -ography means it is like a type of art." That is what he thought it meant anyways. "Correct on the first part, but not quite on the second half of the word." Quote:

He was not the note taking type, because he was smart enough to remember EVERYTHING that was being said during classes LIAR.
Anyways, pictures were kinda like drawings weren't they? Mweh his previous answer had been right as well surprisingly so he decided to give it another shot. "One root means Drawing?" he had no clue what he was doing and he couldn't wait till the practical portion of the lesson.......there was going to be one right? "Yes, one root does mean drawing," Hadley nodded in confirmation. Quote:

"I think the Greek words were Photo and Graph. Photo meaning or having to do with light and Graph has to do with a drawing..." Hady answered raising her hand. To her it sounded good but she wasn't exactly sure it was correct. "Correct with the meanings, but not quite on the Greek roots." Fina nodded and waited a few more minutes for those who were taking notes to finish their writing. "So those of who mentioned light were correct. Photo comes from the Greek word phos, which means light. Whereas the ending, graphy, comes from the Greek word graphe which translates to representation by lines or drawing." Adding the missing pieces to the notes on the board, she then continued on. "So in whole, Photography means drawing with light. Which makes sense on the conceptual level since we mentioned light was a big part to processing pictures as well as something photographers can control when taking them." "What we're going to do today is practice developing rolls of film. Which I should have enough rolls for everyone to have one, but if you mess up your processing, just share with your classmate." She held up a bin with at least 20 already used rolls of film waiting to be processed. "You will need to wear these highly fashionable safety goggles as a precaution. I have aprons as well but they're optional." "So what i need first, is for everyone to come select one roll of ready-to-develop film, which you can tell if is ready to develop, or in other words been exposed, by the fact that there will NOT be this little tab sticking out." She demonstrated by holding up one of the unexposed film canisters and moving the tab of film back and forth. "Also, please take a pair of goggles and an apron, if you wish. Your goggles should sit correctly on your face, covering your eyes. I don't want to see any goggle headbands or goggles on the back of heads, or you will not earn credit for this class. While you're adjusting your goggles, I'll go ahead and write the procedure on the board and then we'll get started." ooc: i'll post the procedure in a couple hours and you'll have ~48 hours real-time to complete the procedure
