Sixth-Floor Corridor

It goes without saying that the sixth-floor corridor is a curious one. Several doors can be found along this carpet-lacking hallway that mostly lead to storerooms, a few classrooms, and rooms that are locked for reasons unknown to you. Though the most notable features of the sixth floor are the Transfiguration and Music classrooms and a tapestry covering a long crack in the wall where a mysterious portal had once been.

While there isn't much to explore on this floor, at least the bust of Glanmore Peakes will give you something to look at. But if admiring the sea serpent slayer isn't really your thing, there are plenty of bizarre portraits to talk to. Temeritus Shanks is always up to date about the details being printed in the Prophet and swears every word in it is true; Vindictus Viridian will give you some pointers on how to get revenge on your enemies using a few choice potions; and Wendelin the Weird, well, she doesn't really have much to say because she's too busy laughing maniacally while "burning" at the stake.

Or perhaps a certain nook containing a cage with two birds, one black and one white, will capture your attention. How did those get there?

An expected occurrence each and every day, Scrimgeour's low and rough voice booms from the school loudspeakers on the hour without fail. Certain events that transpired throughout October and early November brought with it a number of new school rules, whether you are in favour of them or not. It is better best that you not tune out the headmaster if you wish to avoid point loss, detention, or worse.

"Weekend trips to Hogsmeade have been cancelled until further notice."

Hopefully you will be able to keep these rules straight ... or, if you dare, you'll choose not to. The choice is yours.

She was over staying locked in the common room and hiding away in the dorms. It was maybe ten minutes until lockdown which would be called like clockwork and she honestly stopped caring. It seemed like the worst thing to be tossed out these days was detention, point deduction, and extra laps. Those things wouldn't break her though. They had stripped the students of pretty much EVERYTHING.

Kaitlynn huffed and moved slowly looking at the portraits on the walls and fiddled with the rubber band on her wrist. It wasn't jewelry so she couldn't get in trouble for it but it was the next best thing to the bracelet she had sent back home to her parents. She popped it once against her wrist in reminder that this wasn't a dream. Maybe she would stay out after lockdown was called.

Wasn't patrolling the School looking for potential rulebreakers a great thing? Definitely. Was Rafferty hoping to catch one soon? He was. Rafferty was going the opposite direction of which on of the Ravenclaws, Hopsicks if he could remember right. With an expression on his face that could not be read he took a look at his watch. Without saying a word Rafferty crossed his arms over his chest. He was waiting for her to notice him. Rafferty hoped he looked intimidating.

She looked away from the portraits long enough to catch a glimpse of one of the thorns in her side. Her face showed no emotion and the only thing that even indicated any form of anything was another snap of the rubber band against her wrist. She resisted the urge to huff in irritation. She should've known better to think that she would actually get to enjoy any form of peace. She had to give him his props though, the whole arms crossed over chest, I'm mean and intimidating look had the twelve a little unnerved.

"Good evening, Professor Ainsworth," she said politely, snapping the rubber band again just out of habit now. She looked at her watch noting she still had another good seven minutes before she needed to head to the roost and it wasn't like he couldn't follow her back, he was her Head of House after all and she was only one floor away from that very common room. A walk she could make in two minutes. She still wanted to be defiant and stay out past lockdown because it made her feel like an inmate. Just that word. Lockdown.

Still....at this point in time she was following all rules. Her uniform was in perfect form and she wasn't doing anything more than walking the corridor, much like the Professor himself. She had no contraband on her and she had only thought of putting up a small rebellion and they couldn't really punish her for her thoughts.

Why was Hopsisk snapping the rubber band? It was something Rafferty was wondering. Did he care enough to find out? Not at the moment. “Good evening, Hopsisk. I hope you did not plan to dwaddle all night. It would be sad and disappointing if you miss the curfew.’’ Rafferty smiled coldly. It was too bad that he could not see any rule breaking. He would love to dock a few points even if it were the House he was supposedly heading. What did he care? Rafferty wasn’t here for winning a stupid house cup.

Rafferty glared down at Hopsisk. “What’s with the rubber band snapping?’’

"Not all night, sir." She had planned to 'dwaddle' half the night, maybe, but she did have to run those laps in the morning and if she stayed out all night...well...she still wasn't over the first TROLL incident just yet. She didn't want a repeat either which is why she missed breakfast and then so stressed she couldn't eat any other meal and without being able to have food out of the Great Hall...well...she was losing more weight than she cared to admit, especially to this man.

Kaitlynn touched the rubber band and averted his gaze because she knew he honestly didn't care about how he made people feel and she didn't want to see the icy gaze he was going to give her for her ridiculous answer. "It's a coping mechanism, Professor. I'm in a second year student but it's my first year here at Hogwarts." And it was terrible. She never thought she'd find herself thinking this...but she hated it. "However, don't let my sad story waste any more time of you valuable time. I shall head back to the common room now." She said it with a little more snark than she intended and stood rooted in place instead of leaving. She had never used that kind of tone toward anyone.

Was Rafferty being sassed by this pipsqueak? He would like to think so. Was he bothered? No. Rafferty chose to ignore her comment because he was for once, interested in what a student had to say out of a lesson. Was Hopsisk insinuating what he thought she was? Was she saying that perhaps the new rules and take overs were making her life miserable? Rafferty was not moved. For all he knew now that he thought of it, it could be for some other reason. Perhaps a friend was stressing her out. Perhaps it was the lessons. “Yes, let’s not waste my precious time.’’ Rafferty drew himself up to his fullest height. “Run along, Hopsisk. I shall be along to the Common Room in a few minutes and if you’re not there.’’ Rafferty let the threat hang. He continued on his way down the corridor in the opposite direction of the Ravenclaw Common Room.
