Upper FloorsIt becomes more airy as you make your way to the upper floors of the castle. Here the tallest towers can be accessed and just maybe you will discovery somewhere that if you have to ask, you'll never know but if you know, you need only ask.
If you're wandering around the seventh-floor corridor and you suddenly have the urge to cover your ears, you know you're steadily approaching the Fat Lady's portrait. While it isn't an uncommon fact that the vocal portrait guards the entrance to the Gryffindor Common Room, getting past the Fat Lady without the correct password is no easy feat. Her passion for tip-top security is just as great as her love for good food and drink.
Though the Fat Lady is very particular about who she allows to pass through the portrait hole, she really doesn't mind anyone hanging around in the corridor. At every opportune moment, she will insist that you stop to listen to her "amazing" singing voice or engage in very loud conversation about the latest gossip. Even the Gryffindors themselves have to put up with the antics of this loud and flamboyant woman -- sometimes she won't even let them inside their common room until she is satisfied with their response to her singing or finds the gossip juicy enough to go share with her friend Violet.
Rose wandered into the seventh floor corridor, on slow and tired feet. This dark haired and dark-eyed lioness sixth year was exhausted after a long day of classes. As she got closer and closer to the fat lady's portrait her exhaustion was challenged by a sudden spike of worry. Rose had forgotten the new password, her mind was a totally blank. Stopping in front of the fat lady's portrait she plastered on a smile as she peered up at the big pink dressed madam. "Can you let me in please? It's me Rose." It was worth a shot, worst case she'd get yelled at.

The blondish second year made her way up to the seventh floor, and frowned when she spotted an older girl she recognized from the gobstones team last term, just outside the fat lady's portrait. "Rose?" she said, biting her lower lip. "Is everything okay? Has she left her portrait unattended again? You do know we need a password to get in. Just our name isn't really enough because well. Anyone could claim our identities." Surely since the girl was like many years into her education - Kara forgot exactly what year Rose was, maybe fifth or seventh or something - but either way much older than herself, so she'd surely know that there were identity potions and transfiguration that people could use. Because even she knew that and she was only twelve.
Once she got close enough to the older girl, she studied her seriously. "You do remember the password, don't you? I believe the latest one was buckwheat."

Krittika had trekked seven staircases to get here on the Seventh Floor. If it hadn’t been for those moving staircases, there wouldn’t have been any need for her to be climbing stairs that were unnecessary. At least she had gotten some form of workout done so there was that particular silver lining. However, she was not heading to her Common Room just yet. Krittika was on her way to the Owlery to send two letters: one to Dio and one to her parents.
On her way there, she came across two younger students - Rose, and a way younger one she believed was named Kara - both seemingly forgotten the password to their Common Room. “Hi, ladies.” Smiling, the Ravenclaw approached them. “Has your password changed without you knowing?” If that was the case then they would need another student to assist, or perhaps professor Feirgrund.
Nope, you weren't the only one tired. Being beautiful and training your voice was exhausting. The Fat Lady's eyes were closed because it was her time for beauty rest. But her sleep was interrupted by someone pleading to be let in. She opened one eye to glare down at her.
Really? This young lady-excuse me, this blossoming lady was grown but hadn't learned that she accepts nothing but compliments and passwords her way. At least the even younger blossoming lady lion was here trying to assist.
Clearly, this was not the time for napping anymore.
Hem, hem
"I was trying to rest my voice for an upcoming recital. My voice needs ample recovery time if I want to hit the HIIIIIIIIIGH notes." The high off-pitch key causing some strain on their growing ears. "Goodness me, my apologies. Ahem. That was the password an hour ago, like the times it has changed."
Oh and look, someone who wasn't a Gryffindor was here. Well, even if she had the password, she would be quick to shut herself before an Eagle flew their way into the common room.

"No password, no entry."
That was that.
Rose had trekked seven staircases from the lowest dungeon after Potions class to get to the seventh floor and all her energy felt like it had been zapped out of her body and left in a cauldron. Tired and with a banging headache, she spun around at the familiar voice of a younger lioness. Rose just stared at the other girl for a moment baffled by the accusation question. With a sigh she answered doing her best not to snap in a calm tone. "Hi Kara, I know that we need a password to get in too the common room. I've been here for 6 years. I haven't seen a prefect recently or Professor Feirgrund since I've been in class til now, so what's the new password? I know it has probably changed since this morning." Rose didn't outright admit that she had forgotten the new password because Kara had accused her of not knowing how things worked and that had struck a sore toe.
At the sound of yet another girls voice Rose did her best to remain calm as she turned to see who had arrived now. Recognizing Kritti in her eagle blue robes she did her best to respond pleasantly and with a small smile. "Hi Kritti! Yes, but doesn't every houses password change regulary and often?"
Rose was about to say something else to Kritti when the Fat Lady made her high pitched presence known causing Rose to visibly wince and cover her ears with her hands. This was not good for her headache. Plastering on a smile with clear effort Rose said to the grand lady trying for flatter. "My lady your voice is very musical." After a few silent moments she asked "My lady do tell, why do you feel the need to change the password to the lion common room so often?"

Kara looked bewildered at the other older girl, Krittika. "We can't all have riddles to solve." Although if she was stuck with a riddle to solve, she'd likely never sleep in her dorm. "Usually our prefects are good about telling us when the passwords change though. It's not likely where the password changes suddenly in the middle of the day."
She hadn't meant rudeness to Rose and really hoped it hadn't come across as such - the girl was a fantabulous gobstones player and mentor. It was just a long day, she guessed. Kara shook her head. "I mean this is only my second year, but I don't think they usually change the password that frequently." Unless the fat lady was just messing around with them, which was actually a strong possibility since she was sure the woman did have a pranking tendency.
Kara rolled her eyes at the high note of their portrait lady, but quickly recovered when she realized sass would NOT get them into the common room. Wait, so the password changed an hour ago!?! Was she sassing them??
"I'm sorry ma'am, but just one hour ago? Since when are the passwords changing so frequently? Surely you can make an exception, since we did know the previous password and you can see clearly our gryffindor robes." Well except for Kritti. She batted her lashes momentarily in her direction for a little extra flattery.

Ean was making his usual rounds, no classes to teach today, and the Hospital Wing was free, so he had time to check up on the common room. Maybe pop in a movie to watch, and all before he returned to his office.
Feirgrund stopped momentarily after he heard a high-pitched off-key note rebound off the walls. Hm, she's at it again.. It could only be the Fat Lady Portrait, he confirmed after he turned the corner and could see two... three students talking by the Portrait.
"Good day, ladies..." Ean announced himself, surveying Miss Walsh, Miss Snakebark, and Miss Joshi in front of the Portrait. Did they (excluding Miss Joshi) need assistance entering the common room? "Is there any trouble?" He certainly hoped it wasn't a huge problem, if so, but he was here to resolve it happily.
It was as Rose feared the password had changed an hour ago. Then it was no wonder that she didn't know the new password since she had just finished a potions class. She was tired and hungry and with a headache so if she had sounded snappy to Kara and Kritti then she was sorry. She just couldn't help it. The Fat Lady was obviously messing with them like she often did probably to amuse herself. Rose was eager to know what the Fat Lady was going to say or react even to her and Kara's questions when their Head of house showed up like a savior.
Turning to her head of house Rose explained their troubles "Good afternoon Professor Feirgrund, the Fat Lady changed the password to our common room an hour ago and neither I nor Kara have been informed of the new password since the last passowrd was new just this morning and as thus we can't get access to the lions den." She didn't say that it was frustrating or hard or stressy with everything else she needed to keep track off with classes and so on but surely Professor Feirgrund could read between the lines.

Kritti gave Rose a smile, one mixed with slight pity and a lot of warmth. Pity because it must be a chore having to remember passwords and keeping up with the frequent changes, warmth to be encouraging. As for Kara, she got a questioning look complete with a slight raise of a perfectly manicured eyebrow. “As your Housemate so delightfully put it, Ravenclaws don’t enter their Common Room with the use of passwords.” The seventh year was about to suggest that the younger girls find their Head of House for assistance when the familiar voice of the Fat Lady interrupted.
Oh.
Clearly she was unhappy about her rest being interrupted. Krittika could not blame her. But did the Fat Lady have to be unnecessarily dramatic? Kritti winced as the high note filled the corridor. Who let the Banshee out?
At least there was Professor Feirgrund here to help now, his delightfully muscular and authoritative presence would surely save the day for Rose and Kara. “Hi, Professor! Your little Lionesses are surely could use your help right now.” Now that a solution would be found, Kritti could be on her merry way. After all, this situation no longer concerned her, especially since she did not belong to the House. “See you around, everyone,’’ she said, wiggling fingers at them, her words mirroring those her Aunty Sarika frequently used. And with that, she left for the Owlery.
Words of flattery were very much approved, but this was laying a little thick. Was she (Miss Snakebark) mocking her? Merlin knows a student wouldn't dare mock the guardian of their common room.
"Thank you, my dear. I am taking your politeness into consideration." The younger student (Miss Walsh) was lucky she couldn't read minds. "I do not change the passwords for fun, my dear. The frequency of students not in Gryffindor attempting to slip in with their friend's help requires dire actions." As evidenced by the older Ravenclaw who is within earshot. "No exceptions!"
A warm and resonant voice echoed through the halls as the Head of House made their entrance. Oh, what a sight to behold. It seemed as though every masculine Head was destined to possess a certain charm. Images of Professors Wayland, Marchand, Flamsteed, Trent, Dumont, and countless others danced through her painted mind. Yet, even those fond memories couldn’t completely quell her frustration at the situation. It seemed the students were portraying her as the villain for simply trying to do her job.
"I understand your frustrations, but the password has changed. It’s important to adapt to new changes. After that last incident with the fourth-year Hufflepuff sneaking in with their friend's help, I can not keep it the same forever." Her voice softened, hoping they could see her perspective. While the eagle (Miss Joshi) departed, there was some hope that she'd make an exception. Some, being the keyword.
"Once I've changed the password, I don't change it back."

"Thank you, Miss Joshi. Have a pleasant day." Feirgrund acknowledged, before the seventh year was on her way, leaving them. This now left him with the lionettes and the Fat Lady. So there a password dispute, once again. He inwardly sighed, given the frequency of the password changes. "Miss Snakebark, Miss Walsh. Thank you for your patience and dealing with this. Don't worry, I'll give you the password, but first I have to hear what she is saying." From all that she said, it had now escalated to problematic than safety these changes, despite her explanation. Before her words likely upset the young ladies anymore, he stepped in.
"My Lady, thank you for your concern. While we appreciate your efforts, let's limit the password changes to once a week at the most. If the issue continues to escalate, the Prefects and I will take further action from there.." Flattery went a long way, and he would prefer to receive notices on the change less frequently.
"The new password is Pulchram Vocem. One or both of you may repeat it to her now." Feirgrund said at a lower volume, but loud enough for the two to hear clearly. The Head Lion felt it was easier for them to remember the password if they said it aloud themselves.
