Last year, he blamed his students' behaviour on being uprooted from the castle and being brought into strange waters with less than friendly hosts. This term, they just seemed to be having a contest to see who could make him lose his marbles first. Hint: Gryffindor was winning.

He gave the Fifth Year a disapproving look once she was out of the portrait and back on her feet. Thank Merlin for that, by the way. He didn't need a whole disaster on his hands. "I expect that sort of poor excuse and poor thinking from First Years, Starson. You wouldn't go "not again" and cover your ears the moment I started speaking--at least not to my face. It's disrespectful." Something he didn't think he'd need to spell out to someone like her who'd always been more keen to follow rules and remain on the good side of her peers and Professors. "Being a portrait does not exclude her from common decency in the same way that I'm sure if you had something you were passionate about and you had others covering their ears--a visual, deliberate and blunt act of shutting someone down--you would be none too pleased either." This was very basic. "I trust you won't go around treating anyone else in the castle this way. It's hurtful behaviour and not to be repeated, am I clear?"

He wouldn't argue when she rolled her eyes. The Headmaster trusted he wouldn't need to tell her that was also disrespectful, regardless. Or maybe he would. He'd have to wait and see on that one and hope the faith he was willing to put in her wouldn't be thrown back in his face because then he'd have to do something about it and he'd rather not with this one. She wasn't outright a trouble maker.

Not like Dredworth.

He scowled at the girl. "A wise person knows the difference between being honest and being disrespectful. Small minded people use the excuse of "being honest" to be nothing more than rude." As she had done. "Put a sock in it, you're making ears bleed" is plainly rude. It's not how you'd speak to a professor," He trusted, "and I hope not how you speak to your peers."

It also didn't escape his attention that she had done neither thing he'd requested of her. "You're not leaving this spot, until you apologize for your poor behaviour and applaud the Fat Lady."

Vance was free to go whenever he pleased. Starson, too, once she confirmed she'd understood what he said, but not this one.

Wait........... Carsyn's eyes were going back and forth to Stella in the portrait and the fat lady outside. And Cora was adding unnecessary commentary. Why couldn't it have been Cora who got stuck in the portrait?

But what happened next ... after a slow clap from her on the headmaster's request, another flash and the lady switched back with Stella. What? More staring from the fifth year.

So being that she had only seen the aftermath, did that mean she didn't have any verbal apologies needed? Also, Trent should totally have a lesson on a respect, since apparently they all seemed to need it.

it was only then, that Carsyn realized the direction she was needing to go was into the common room. Was it an appropriate time to mutter the password? Did the password change when the portrait occupants did? She'll just wait a minute or two....

Looking at the Headmaster she nodded. "Yes sir it won't happen again I promise, am I free to go?" Stella asked him. She was ready to get down the Great Hall and get her something to eat, she was straving. Boy... being stuck in a portrait sure did take alot out you, she was glad to be out of there. She was relieved to be out of the portrait she was going to be nice to everything in this school even the suit of armor itself.

Looking back at Carsyn she shook her head, there was no need for her to say anything, it wasn't needed by her. Stella was nice to anyone and everyone, unlike some people who wanted to prank poor little first years to prove something to some before getting caught. Apparently she wasn't nice enough to everyone, but was going to make sure she was from now on. Looking back at Cole she nodded. "Sounds amazing, I'm starving."

Looking at the crowd she said politely. "Sorry... excuse me, coming through " Making her way through the crowd of lions she headed downstairs towards the Great Hall.

Hands shoved deep in her pockets, Cora gazed stone-faced and stubborn at Trent as he went on and on and on AND ON. She knew better than to tell him to put a sock in it too, but that didn't mean she wasn't thinking it. Because she definitely was and it was probably clear from her bored expression.

But if he thought honestly wasn't the best policy, then fine. She'd remember that next time he wanted to know why she hadn't completed her homework or when she got caught in the corridors after curfew. She was good at telling fibs if that's what he wanted.

And to prove it, she turned her attention to the portrait. "Sorry, yeah?" It lacked any sincerity or conviction, but there it was. Her hands remained in her pockets though, and she turned back to the Headmaster. "And are you gonna make her apologise to me as well? She basically assaulted me."

And what was Carsyn still hanging around for? Enjoying the show, was she?

”Yes, you’re free to go.” Malachi confirmed Starson’s question before turning his rather unimpressed gaze to Dredworth once more.

Sorry, yeah?

“Not with a pathetic apology like that, I’m not.” To have the Fat Lady apologise in response to such a lack lustre and insincere apology would be too great an injustice. “You can do better than that and you will. You will look her in the eye and you will clearly state what you are apologising for—think carefully. Don’t just run your mouth and try to be a smart Alec. You’ll only drag this out. The desired outcome will be met, it’s up to you to decide how soon we put this behind us.”

Suffice to say Malachi had heard enough pinched apologies that ran a along the lines of “I’m sorry because the Headmaster said I have to be.”

If she had to lie, he suggested she get it over with.

Was he for real? Did he want her to get up in there and kiss the fat lady's painted feet while she was at it?

With all the less than impressed mumbling and grumbling, Cora turned again to the portrait. And because this was getting boring now and she had better things to do, she decided to make an effort. The last thing she needed was Mrs Stemp hearing about this.

"I'm sorry for being disrespectful." Except it was just honest. "And I'm sorry for not clapping when ---" when you made a noise resembling a kneazle being strangled. "--- when you sang so ... nice."

Better?

Wait, so that wasn't a picture of Stella? That was actually Stella?! Józef was beyond confused, as evident by the look on his face. A flash of light wasn't much explaination either, but it was all his friend had offered and he wasn't going to push her for more information when this clearly wasn't her doing.

Jó was almost amused when Cora was whacked over the head, but the Fat Lady's 'singing' (for want of a better word) really took away from the amusement factor and just made him cringe. And after a moment it was his turn to be wacked?! Blinking in the shock, it took a moment for Józef to clock what she was asking of him. But a duet partner? "Okay, I can do that. Do you know the Vengaboys?"

He had no idea what she was singing, though. Definitely not the Vengaboys.

At Carsyn's arrival, he just shrugged. The prefect was getting no explainations from him, mainly because he didn't know what was going on. He did step aside for the Headmaster, though, and tried to offer Stella a reassuring smile.

Although it may have come across more amused. As more people started to arrive, and all add something to the discussion of how and why, Józef tuned out a little. He had nothing to add, unless the Fat Lady did indeed know the Vengaboys.

He didn't even have a chance to join in the clapping before there was a flash of light and Stella was seemingly back out of the portrait.

Shame, really. Would have been fun to have Stella in for the Fat Lady, for a change.

But now he was in the middle of watching Cora get a telling off and honstly, he just wanted to go into the common room.
