Default Transfiguration I: Halloween Costumes

TRANSFIGURATION SEMINAR

For today’s Transfiguration seminar, the class is being held in one of the larger classrooms, to allow extra space and for ease of all involved. Don’t worry too much though, that just means your classroom is closer to the Great Hall and you have a few extra minutes to eat your sandwiches. Remember, Professor Eris’ expects you to have built up plenty of energy for today’s lesson, especially considering we have just finished lunch and it is Monday. You are still feeling refreshed after the weekend, yes?

As you step into the class Professor Eris is waiting for you, wearing a deep navy set of robes. He’s leaning on the front of his desk, relaxed and waiting for you all to arrive. There is a large rail to the side of his desk, as tall as the Professor and easily two arm spans long. Upon looking it over further though the only thing you can see past the purple velvet cover, are the feet - and unfortunately that doesn’t give you much clue towards the lesson today.

Today, the tables are set up for group work, 2x2 desks create four spaces per area and there are piles of a5 and a4 cut pieces of parchment in the middle of each cluster. Between the piles, is a tub filled with a wide variety of colouring pencils.

As you get comfortable, if you look past the covered rail and Professor Eris himself you will see that there is a single word written on the blackboard behind his desk.

IC-wise please remember that we are almost two months into classes with Professor Eris’ so this wouldn’t be your first time meeting him.

Before joining us, please make sure you have read the rules and expectations for Transfiguration this term.

Class will officially start in roughly 24 - 36 hours from this post.

Blake couldn't draw with a darn... in fact he hated drawing. Looking around the the room to see what everyone else was doing he noticed Claudine drawing. He smiled, remembering how creature with art she really was ... but the scowling because well ... it was Claudine.

"I don't know what I want to be." It was much to late in the game to start planning costume for the year. Usually Blake was planning so much sooner.... what did he want to be???? ..... Thinking of muggle attire... he decided ...

Surgical scrubs (blue preferably)
Shoe covers
Surgical mask

There he was well on his way to looking like a surgeon .. at least in the muggle world. He was completely unsure what Healers in the magical world wore or dressed liked.

With her costume now planned out on parchment, Isla was ready to put her ideas to work. As she fumbled around with the color choices at her table, she made a few slight changes to her plans. Oh, and fairy wings, too! What was a fairy without any wings anyway? She made a few finishing touches on her plans then set to work designing her costume.

She started out with the dance leotard that would go underneath it all. She made it a sea-green color for no other reason than she just liked those colors on a fairy. Then she designed the tutu, which was a mixture of colors plus some sparkly sequins. Next was the silver butterfly clip that would go in her hair. She drew it a little larger than she needed to, because it would have otherwise been too small to be seen. Then there was the muggle-style fairy wand. She'd seen this kind on several princess costumes before. She made it silver with a golden star on top. Finally, there were the fairy wings, which turned out to be the hardest to draw, since she never could manage to get them to look the same size. She made them silver with sequins to match the rest of the costume.

When that was done, she sat back and looked at her work. Oh, ballet shoes! She just couldn't walk around bare-footed, although real fairies didn't exactly wear shoes. She sketched them in anyway. Satisfied, she put down the materials she'd been working with and rested her parchment on the table in front of her.

Text Cut: Click here for Isla's final parchment

Clothing: A bright blue dance leotard with a blue and lime sea-green tutu (silver ribbons on tutu)

Okay, she could do this. She would do this. She wasn't going to let her lack of art skills get in the way. She made awesome posters without art skills, though those were words and colors, not really drawing people.

ugh

ugh

No, she would do it. Quill to parchment she went along the paper trying her best. Drawing the long toga looking dress, the headpiece. Once she was done she looked at what she hoped to see as Athena, goddess of war, but what she saw was a poorly drawn resemblance of....

Morticia Adams?

Yep, yep, she wanted that all along. Erasing the headpiece and making the hair black she stopped and decided Morticia Adams was now her costume.

The Idea Man Kori-Kins

Tom had been trying to figure out what he wanted to do for his costume, seriously surely someone could help him come up with a good costume. This wasn't fair, seriously you needed a lot more time to come up with a grand design so in the end he decided to protest and just come up with something simple, which had already been done before and which was boring. With a capital B.

Tom started to draw, first he drew a wizard hat, something which a Professor would wear, then he looked at the Professor at the front of the room and started to draw normal muggle clothes, making sure he drew a white shirt and black trousers, he also had a tie. He then made sure to add in some crazy facial features, and to end it he titled it Frankenstein Teacher. And no before the Professor got upset it wasn't based on a single Professor, it was just he didn't have much time to think about what to design and that was the first thing to come into his head.

Heath listened intently as Professor Eris spoke again, He was right; going to Hogwarts did make it impossible to get to a costume shop… which was why Heath owled his mum and dad over a month ago about his Halloween costume to make sure it got here in time. It didn’t matter if there was nothing happening on Halloween. If nothing else, he could just wear his costume around the common room. Understanding dawned in his eyes as he heard the instructions. Oh, so that’s why the parchment and colored pencils were here! Were they going to transfigure their drawing into actual costumes when they were done? That sounded hard! Was that even possible?

It didn’t take long for Heath to decide what costume he wanted to draw; he’d known he wanted to be Luke Skywalker for months. The real question was which version? He had the lighter-colored costume upstairs in his dorm, but was it really designing a costume if he was just copying one that he already had? He decided to draw the black outfit from Return of the Jedi instead. He liked that costume better anyway, and none of the shops ever had the black outfit!

Now came the hard part, the actual drawing. Heath wasn’t a very good drawer - Ariel was the artist in the family - but he’d give it his best try. He started by gathering all the colored pencils he’d need: brown, peach, green, silver, and black… lots of black. He drew a sort of egg shape for his face and filled it in with simple features; drawing faces wasn’t his strong suit! He started to draw his natural hair but quickly decided against it. Nope, the all black outfit with his long dark hair would look too much like Kylo Ren. If he was going to be Luke, he needed a wig or spell to change his hair. He picked up a lighter shade of brown and filled in the hair.

Then he moved on to the fun part, the actual outfit. He carefully drew a long-sleeved shirt with a high collar and sketched a hip-length vest-type thing over the top, paying attention to each fold. Picking up the black pencil, he filled in the shirt and started to do the same to the vest. Wait, if he used the same color for the shirt and the vest, it would be too hard to see where one stopped and the other began. Instead, he used the darkest shade of gray he could find to color the vest. When he finished, he paused to look over his work so far. Hmm, not bad for his limited drawing skills.

Heath picked up the black pencil again to draw the legs, trousers, and knee-length black boots - real leather ones, not the flimsy cloth shoe covers that came with the muggle costumes. He surveyed his drawing again and felt something was lacking. The belt, of course! How could he forget? He drew a black belt over the waist of the vest, complete with a silver square sort of shape for a belt buckle, a functioning pouch on one side, and a clip for the - That reminded him, how was he going to draw the lightsaber? He’d originally planned for the figure to hold it, but he was awful at drawing hands! The one he had so far looked more like a paw than a hand. In the end, he decided to draw it off to the side, rather than try to put it in the figure’s hand, so he finished off the figure’s right hand with a black glove.

Next to the drawing of himself in the Luke Skywalker costume, Heath sketched a silver cylinder decorated with black accents and a long line of green at the top for the beam of light. Hmm, he wondered if it was possible to build a lightsaber that ran on magic. That would look so much better than the plastic, battery-operated ones! When he was done drawing, he gave his work a final check before adding the following description at the bottom of the page:

SPOILER!!: Heath's description
Heathcliff Jones as Luke Skywalker (Return of the Jedi version)

Hair: light brown wig

Clothing: long-sleeved black hisrt with high collar, black vest, black trousers, black leather boots

Accessories: leather belt with pouch and clip, black glove on right hand, green lightsaber

Benji was listening. He really was. He PROMISED he was trying his absolute hardest, it just happened to be that his absolute hardest wasn't particularly great and he just wanted to DO STUFF. Like transfiguring stuff. He wasn't good at it but it was OKAY because his dad said he used to suck at baking when he was a kid but now he was a PROFESSIONAL. And mum said there were lots of times when she was starting out and bludgers hit her and broke stuff so there was a LEARNING CURVE and he was HERE FOR IT.

He was gonna get GOOD at transfiguration but he couldn't do that if Professor Eris spent the whole time talking. He had to get PRACTISING. He had SO MUCH ENERGY.

So the announcement that they were designing costumes was... yeah, it was kinda predictable, since he was going on about Hallowe'een for quite a bit there, but it's okAY because he LOVED Hallowe'een.

HM. What went good with other stuff.

SALT. He liked that on chips. He could be salt and his brother could be chips. Benjamin Stylinson was a GENIUS. The hat made a MISTAKE not getting him in Ravenclaw, okay.

So. He drew a stick figure with boards of card around him like the glass part of a salt shaker and a bowl-looking thing on top of his head, and then drew an arrow at it. And then wrote "CAULIFLOWER". And then just to be clear about exactly what he meant, drew holes in the bowl. Cauliflowers had holes in them so they could drain water out.

A pretty ingenious idea, if he did say so himself.

And he did.

Bernie had NO IDEA what she would be for a Halloween event happening THIS WEEKEND. It was too close, and too fast to plan out an idea. She looked around at her group to see what everybody else was doing, her nose turning up slightly at Blake's idea, and tilting her head to the side in appreciation of Isla's idea. Wow, she had really thought that out, huh?

Bernie grabbed a bit of parchment and started doodling, deciding on a whim, based on her doodles, that she would be a KNEAZLE for Halloween. She'd need...
  • Grey clothing
  • Fuzzy ears
  • Maybe a few black stripes?
  • A tail

Maybe she could make her hair grey, and wear a headband that had cat ears on it, and then a grey shirt and grey leggings, and paint stripes on them, and make a tail....? What would she make her tail out of, though?

With a nod, Carwyn smiled as they all either happily or reluctantly took parchment to begin working on their designs. They didn’t have to be fantastic or look as if they were drawn by the best artist as they only have five or ten minutes to do them but any sketches that they made would help them in the next activity. They had probably figured it out by now that they were going to be working on transfiguring Halloween outfits by now, and if they hadn’t SURPRISE!. Heh.

He quietly turned back to the board and wrote a few words on the board - hair, top, bottom, shoes, props, other clothing items? - as a reminder for the various pieces that someone could need for an outfit. Of course this list wouldn’t apply to everyone, some wouldn’t need half of it while others would need every item and more. With that in mind he added; Would you need anything else? underneath in his careful looped handwriting before he put down the chalk and turned around to move around the room.

Raising his hand Cole said quietly "I never plan my outfit beforehand. I just go with my mood and choose a character from something i've read in a book or seen on tv and then go ransack, first my dad's wardrobe and then the attic and then piece something cool together on the morning of halloween. One year i dressed up as a chicken."The cucko-sounds had been the hardest.

As the lesson progressed Cole got more and more drowsy. When they got to the create a description of a halloween costume you want to wear part he was very tempted to put his head on the table and sleep. Somehow he doubted Professor Eris would approve of that. Getting a parchment out along with some writing supplies Cole got to work.

It was by that time that Cole felt like he had done enough. He laid his quill down and pushed the ink out of reach. Then he layed his down on his desk, with a hand over his parchment, incase someone might snatch it. He gave Professor Eris a glance before he closed his eyes. He just needed a small nap, he was a growing boy. The professor would surely see that too right?[/FONT]

Were they going to transfigure something into their hypothetical costumes. Naya hoped that both things were true. She enjoyed coming up with her Halloween costumes and if they actually had a chance to make and wear them......well that would be awesome.

Of course Naya already had something in mind. She wanted to be Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz for Halloween. Now she just had to draw a sketch and get her idea down on parchment. Naya grabbed a piece of parchment and got straight to work.

She drew her face and shoulders and then Naya went to work on her dress. Dorothy wore a blue and white gingham dress. Clearly Naya didn’t think about the fact that she had to draw all those little blue and white checks when she made her choice. Since drawing was her thing, she took care in making her dress look as good as possible. Then she needed a white, short sleeved blouse to go with the dress. The most important part of the costume, in her opinion, was the ruby slippers. That totally made the outfit. Naya made sure that she had them properly bedazzled in her picture. Oh and she had to have the white ankle socks.

Naya took a moment to look at her picture so far. Not bad, but it still needed more. The accessories would top off the whole ensemble. She drew a basket and of course she had to have little Toto. Last, but not least was the hairdo. Dorothy wore two braids tied with ribbons. Naya added the hair to her drawing and she was done.

Putting her parchment down, Naya happened to look to the side and notice that Cole was um.......dreaming about his costume. She poked him in the arm. ”Cole, Cole wake up”, she whispered. She didn’t want him to get in trouble for sleeping during class.

Walking between the desks, he noted that everyone was at least trying to draw their outfit and that was all he could ask for. All a Professor wanted was for them to try. Though, when he looked over Benjamin’s shoulder he had zero ideas what the boy wanted to dress up as. Not a one. He’d find out in a minute he was sure but for now he kept walking; he saw Lex has a pirate, Kaiser a crown, Isla a fairy and Tom had a monster of a Professor. He chuckled under his breath as he nodded happily before turning around to check on the last table which held Cole and Naya.

Walking up from behind him, the Professor didn’t think too much of Cole’s position, assuming he was just bent over his parchment and drawing intently. He was bent over his parchment, but not in any good way. Slipping his wand from his holster, he aimed it at Mr Vance and cast a mild stinging jinx at him; it would only sting for about ten seconds but it should be enough to wake him up. ”Mr Vance.” He said, standing behind him. ”I require your eyes open and your full attention for the rest of the lesson. Do not make me deduct more points from Gryffindor today, or worse - give you a detention.” As the boy moved, Carwyn was at least thankful to see he had completed his outfit before sleeping, but that didn’t put him in any form of a better mood with the young Lion.

Moving away from Cole, he instead spoke up. ”One minute left everyone.” He did one quick, last walk around the room before he moved back to the front of the classroom. ”Perfect. Well done to everyone for coming up with a costume so quickly. Sometimes, you simply don’t have more than half an hour notice or everything changes because you can’t find an essential part of the original costume regardless of how you tried.” He nodded, smiling again.

”Now, answer me this… If you look at the picture of the outfit you are hoping to create, what would you need so that you could pull it all together before the weekend? Think about clothing, shoes, and props. Would you require anything specific for your hair? Charms will help with the changing of your hair or even your eye colour for a few hours for an event like this, but you want to be able to transfigure any clothes or items for your outfit that you don’t already have.” Yes! Did they see how helpful Transfiguration could be? ”This will save you having to message your parents and hoping that they can find what you need before the weekend.”

OOC: Hi my lovelies!!! <3 Time for question two. Thank you to everyone for sticking with Carwyn and his ridiculous love of Halloween.

Due to said love of Halloween, I have another RP opportunity for you here.. Carwyn will mention that this gathering will be happening at the end of the seminar so everyone here would know it would be happening.

Now, you have roughly 30 hours to answer the Professor’s question and we will be moving on at some point between 2am and 3am on Wednesday morning GMT.

Alexandre examined the picture in front of him. If he had to dress up as a pirate tomorrow, or in a few hours, what would he need? He would need proper clothes, but he could probably throw something together from his existing clothes without too much difficulty. It might require cutting up a shirt to make it look more ragged and piratey, which he was sure wouldn't make his maman super happy, but it would work. The eyepatch... he could make something out of paper probably though it wouldn't look great. He raised his hand. "I'd need a hat. I don't have any hats that look like a pirate hat." Though he really SHOULD. "And an eyepatch and a parrot and a sword." Not a REAL one of course but like a wooden one. Or plastic like you can get in a store. Or foam, that would be fun. That was something he could make out paper too if he had to but if they were talking about transfiguration here he would prefer something a bit cooler if possible. The parrot, too, obviously he wanted a fake one. A stuffed parrot to sit on his shoulder. And... he was pretty sure that was all he needed for his pirate costume.

The Snakette was quite pleased with how her sketch turned out. It looked almost as good as the actual picture of Magenta. It occurred to her that many may not know whom she would be dressing up as, or indeed, she would be mistaken for someone other than Magenta. Why did those thoughts please her so much? It even brought a small smirk to her face as she admired her work.

Then she was back in the real world as the lesson moved on. Claudine didn’t need to look at her sketch again and her hand went into the air to await her turn. When it came, she provided, “I’d need a paintbrush.” Since she wasn’t a painter, and was still on the fence about that, she didn’t own any. One could be sourced from the Art Room, however...

Oh.

Oops.

Isla hadn't really thought about how she'd get all the materials for her costume. She'd planned out everything from tutus to butterfly hair clips to ballet shoes. But how was she going to get all of that? Her ballet shoes were at home. She didn't even have the rest of what she'd listed. Not in those colors, at least. Not to mention the fact that she didn't own anything that resembled a muggle-style fairy wand.

She raised her hand. "I didn't really get that far ahead in my thinking. I don't even have any of the materials I need, but I guess some of it could be made with art materials," she suggested. As for the rest of it? She had no idea. "Can some of my clothes be transfigured into different articles of clothing?" If not, she had zero sewing talent.

Well, if they were allowed to use magic... "Isn't there a spell to make humans look like animals, even temporarily?" Bernie asked, raising her hand. "I mean something like being an animagus. If I could go AS a REAL-looking kneazle, my costume would be sorted."

And if not... she'd have to like, transfigure her headband to have ears, she supposed. It would not be as cool as being--- LOOKING--- just like a wizarding cat.

Nettie had planned a simple Halloween costume this year - it was a cheerleader costume, which was super comfy and took all of five seconds to assemble. But if she really wanted to get in to it, she supposed she could get a bit more complicated with it.

The Ravenclaw raised her hand. "For my cheerleading costume, I could get some pom poms to carry around. Maybe transfigure something to attach them to a hair tie or something so I can keep them on my wrists without having to actually HOLD them," she explained. That was actually...very intriguing. Maybe she'd look in to it.

Default Avalon channeling her inner Katniss Everdeen :D

Was Professor Eris insinuating that they might be able to actually wear these costumes? Avalon figured that they would be transfiguring at least one part of the costume. But the whole thing? That was pretty exciting. "I'll need a pretty intricate dress," Avalon said after raising her hand, gesturing to the feathered phoenix gown she sketched. And it would definitely have to burn like a real phoenix. "I'd also need to charm it to catch on fire somehow. Or at least look like it's on fire." But she didn't quite know how to do that, other than by using bluebell flames. And blue fire was not the look she was going for. Perhaps she'd have to ask Professor Fuller-Thompson after she was done transfiguring her dress.

This wasn't fair, you needed a lot more time to prepare for Halloween, hadn't he already said Easter at the latest, in fact it probably would be best if it was before then, but anyhow. What would he need to try and make a good costume out of what he had drawn.

"I would need some paints and some fake blood... oh and some other materials." If he was going to do a Frankenstein Teacher, he was going to make sure it was done right.

Okay, Kaira wanted to dress up as an Arabic princess 'Jasmine' from the movie 'Alladin'. 'Umm..,' she thought. What would she need? 'I suppose I would need some thermocol to make a crown,' she said.

And they were busted. The professor had noticed that Cole was asleep and threatened him with detention. Naya was afraid that she had drawn attention to the situation. She looked at Cole with regret and mouthed, “I’m sorry”. She didn’t have time to dwell on things because there was another question presented to the class. Naya raised her hand and began to list the items that she would need for her costume.

”I will need a dress, blouse and ruby slippers. For my accessories, I’ll need a basket, a stuffed dog and ribbons for my hair.” She thought that was everything that she would need.......hopefully.

She looked down at her paper and thought about how uncreative, yet creative she felt with it. It wasn't what she wanted at first, but she did love the Adams family and Morticia was beautiful. Could she be that beautiful in the costume? She assumed probably not, but she was going to enjoy being her either way.

When the second question came her hand went up. "Well professor, I just need robes really, I could transfigure them into a tight black long dress since Morticia Adams really only wore that one style dress. I'd need to charm my hair black, it is long enough I think." She checked her hair length for a moment and thought maybe she needed just a bit longer.

"For the shoes, I think I have some black heels that could work. All I really need is someone to be Gomez to go with the theme." It was an afterthought that maybe she should have said that part, but it was out and something she thought would be great.

What friend would do this?

Heath studied the picture he'd just drawn, carefully considering what he'd need to pull off the black Luke Skywalker outfit. He probably had a shirt and trousers that looked enough like the ones in the drawing. He had the lightsaber that went with the costume his dad bought him, but it was cheap and plastic-y and didn't really light up. He'd need a better one for sure! What else did he not have? The vest, the boots and the belt. Oh, and the hair! That was important. If he had the wrong hair, he could be mistaken for a different character.

Heath's hand went up, and he said, "I already have a shirt and trousers I could use, but for an accurate Luke Skywalker costume, I'd need a wig or a charm to make my hair lighter. I'd also need a long vest-type thing, black boots and a utility belt." Then he realized he forgot to name the most important thing.* "Oh! And a lightsaber - or at least something that could be turned into a lightsaber."

There, was that everything? He checked the picture again. Yeah, that was it. He'd just... go back to being quiet now.

Unforgivably Cursed

Merlin, this was painful. Gunnar should have known when he walked into class and saw the word written on the board that they'd be doing something for Halloween. Unfortunately though, he didn't really celebrate the holiday and never got into dressing up, even when he was younger. And he certainly didn't see a point now. That was more his younger sister's and brother's type of thing, and he could even see his mum dressing up Aiden. But Gunnar? No, thanks.

Gunnar would never purposely be disrespectful to a teacher though, even if the spirit of this lesson was totally wasted on him. He wouldn't mind working on some clothing transfiguration, he supposed, but he also did not want to wear a costume. That part wasn't mandatory, was it?

And because he wasn't into Halloween costumes, the seventh year was really kind of stuck on what to draw. He didn't want to not participate, but... eh. He idly sketched away on his parchment, eventually forming a man... in a nice suit. That sort of transfiguration would be useful, he supposed. But he would not need any extra supplies, so just kept silent for now as he casually put a few finishing touches on his sketch.

Alessandro liked dressing up. He liked fitted suits and expensive shoes. He even liked the extravagance of a ball now and again. But Halloween was not really to his taste. As a kid, he liked it. Mikey took him out to the odd party dressed as a ninja a few years in a row to great candy achievement success. But at eighteen he wasn't very into it.

He was into Transfiguration.

So, he scribbled down the first costume idea that popped into his head-- vampire. And the items flowed with it. He would need to darken his hair a shade or two. Al would need to elongate his canines to fangs. And, perhaps if he had the time, he might even wash out the rosiness of his skin to something paler, more devoid of life. The clothes? Well. Al had a fitted suit that might work. Black seemed safe.

The changes would be mostly cosmetic.

He didn't raise his hand to comment. The other students had far more to do than his costume.

Leaning back against the desk as he smiled at Lex to go first. ”Parrot, Patch and Pirate hat.” He chuckled at all of the p’s listed. ”Probably need some form of clothes there too though, perhaps some tall leather boots to keep your feet dry out on the ocean.” He grinned at his great-nephew before moving on.

”A paintbrush, Miss Blaze? Do you already have the clothes you would need in your wardrobe? Does anything need to be modified?” With paint or stains etc, because transfiguring paint stained shirts would be a better option than ruining a school shirt. He didn’t think her parents or the Headmaster would be impressed with that option.

”Ah, not too worry, Miss Bellchant. We have magic.” His eyes lit up, and he was definitely smiling, a smile that grew even more at her next statement. ”Ah, you have asked to correct question, for that is the next step. So keep that thought in mind for a few minutes.” See, transfiguration could be useful! Did they see that?

And if not... she'd have to like, transfigure her headband to have ears, she supposed. It would not be as cool as being--- LOOKING--- just like a wizarding cat.

”Human transfiguration is a very complex part of the subject, NEWT level and higher.” Carwyn said with a smile. ”If I was to transform you into a kneazle, you would act and think like one until you were changed back; so unless you work hard to become an animagus that is not a likely solution I’m afraid.” He added, almost as an afterthought, ”Remember, if you go down that path of working towards being an animagus, that you may not have a kneazle form.” He had hoped for a cat form when he had been younger, and it hadn’t happened. His form was nothing like a cat, though that didn’t mean he didn’t adore his actual animagus form. It was part of who he was.

It seemed that a few of the students were more interested in the props for their costumes, rather than the costume itself. He should have known. He would go ahead with the lesson planned, before seeing which props he could help them out with specifically. He nodded at the seventh year. ”Pom poms and what kind of shoes. Miss Gladin? Do you have the full outfit already?” He believed they often had their hair up in bunches, tied with matching ribbons if his granddaughter was anything to go by.

He was hopeful, Avalon… but truly it depended on what they had in mind and how close they could get the design before the weekend. However, his door would be open this week if any of the students were looking for extra help. ”A dress, on fire.” Hmnm, not on fire, but they could see about emulating fire. They didn’t want to cause more destruction to the castle when they were currently attempting to finish cleaning it up. ”We can work on that if you would like, after you have organised the dress. No, Miss Lindsay you didn’t draw attention to Mr Vance sleeping. He did that all on his own, not to worry.

He nodded, guessing from the ‘ruby slippers’ where she was going with this outfit and smiled. His older sister had introduced him to that old muggle musical when he had still been young and it had a special place in his heart with his other memories of Bethan. ”Would that dress be gingham, by any chance Miss Lindsay?” He was smiling and nodding obviously happy with the wide variety of outfits and costumes they had thought up on such short notice.

He didn't raise his hand to comment. The other students had far more to do than his costume.

The two seventh year men hadn’t said anything in response for the lesson, but it didn’t matter too much to Carwyn as they had both actively listened and drawn some form of outfit when he had asked them too. As far as he was aware that was the important part so far. That and taking part in the actual transfigurations which were going to come next. Yes please, young men. He smiled at them both in turn and nodded. He saw them, he knew they were participating. Yes.

As he turned away from looking at the Head Boy, he finally stood up straight and moved to stand next to his hobbit-footed clothes rail. Really, it was nothing too special, but he liked the Halloween-type touch the hairy feet added as they poked out from underneath the purple material. ”As I hope you have realised, for the rest of today’s seminar, we are going to work on transfiguring your outfits. I have the material’s here for us to work on the main items of clothing and your shoes. If you have other props, we can move onto them if we have time - or my office will be open if you wish help with the props later this week.” He was smiling again. Whoops.

He reached up to pull the cloth from the rail, showing a rail at least an arm span and a half long willed with various pieces of clothing; bright oranges and faded greys, shrunken trousers and oversized jumpers, gawdy patterns and in your face designs of every colour, shape and size stared back at you. There was a hanging basket at one end with paper plates stacked high within it.

”Now, depending on how many clothing items you have to your outfit, will depend on if you take one or two pieces from the rail.” If they had a dress like Avalon or Chloe then one piece would be enough. If like Heath or Gunnar they needed multiple pieces to their outfit then they could take two or three. Ideally, they should start with a maximum or two, and take further items from the rail if they succeeded in transfiguring both initial items. “Don’t pay attention to the size or the style, remember that neither will matter once you have transfigured your own outfit.”

”I want you to take one or two pieces of clothing and two paper plates back to your desk.” He said with a nod as he motioned to the rail and stepped out of the way towards the board. ”Come and get your items now and then we will move on. If you feel better standing, that is okay for the rest of the lesson. There is plenty of space for everyone.”

As they moved to get the items that they would need, Carwyn turned to the board and wrote up on it;

”Now, I know that most of you will have come across pedestis already over your years but I want to see you all create a pair of shoes or boots that will compliment and complete your outfit. Whether that be dress shoes, high heels, ruby slippers or pirate boots.” He looked around the room as he placed a paper plate on his desk. ”The incantation is simple pe-des-tis and all it takes is concentration and a tap of your wand.” He did so, turning the paper plate into a polished brown Oxford men’s shoe, the leather detailing that the style was so well known for shown off as he tilted the shoe to show the class.

”I’m sure you remember however, that this charm is created from the sole up meaning that it can form perfectly around your feet - a handy trick if you find your feet have swollen up or are an awkward size.” As he held the newly transformed shoe in his right hand, he picked up a second from the base of the clothes rail. ”However, this-” the second show was black so that they were distinguishable. ”Is an actual shoe of mine and as you can see - my transfigured shoe is much smaller.” A good inch or two, too small.

”This is why it is important to stand on your plates, even if you would prefer not too. When you estimate the size of your feet, most of the time you will be wrong.” Not always, maybe not if you practiced consistently but most of the time it was simply easier. ”Thus, only ending up with sore feet as you dance the night away.” Did they see now, that it was better to stand on their plates? Even if it meant standing in their socks for five minutes of the lesson.

”Okay, start with your shoes, and we will move on in five or so minutes to the main part of your outfits.” He moved to put the shoes in his own hands down. ”As always if you have any questions, let me know.”

I’ll come post at some point in the next 12-24 hours to move us on again, this is just a mini-warm up for the main activity. Hehe. <3 Have fun!!
