Hello

My name is Katherine, but most people here on SnitchSeeker refer to me as either Pixie of Kath, and it is my pleasure to be your Meet 'n' Greet mod for the month of March!

I joined Snitchseeker back in August 2010 stumbled upon site by accident looking for Harry Potter movie times in Tokyo, Japan (where I have permanent resident status but am a born and raised Californian) and found a news thread asking for someone in Japan to report on an event being held in Tokyo. So I volunteered to do so and then never left!

I've held various positions and roles here on site (see the accolades on my profile for full details) since joining including serving 11 terms as Astronomy professor (with the majority of those acting as Gryffindor Head of House) in the School RPG, Diagon Alley shopkeeper, and a handful of other positions. Currently I serve as a mod for the Fan Fiction and Newbie forums, manage the School RPG's Yearbook, Department Head for the Department of Mysteries in the Ministry of Magic RPG, serve as the male Hufflepuff Prefect in the Hogwarts RPG, and am the site's news correspondent for Japan.

Off site, I am a mother of two (ages 5 and 1 months), a soccer/football fan and have played since I was 5 (I coach as well), English teacher at a small Japanese daycare (cafe in the morning to early afternoon and daycare in the afternoon to evening), owner of a prissy and sassy Somali cat named Kingsley, font addict, hater of the word 'moist,' and cannot go a morning without coffee or an evening without tea.

Hey, sweetie!

1. Do you have a go-to coffee order at say, "Starbucks"?
2. If someone was holidaying in Japan where would you recommend for them to go in order to enjoy that cultural experience?
3. Have you ever done calligraphy?
4. Where do you find the time to do all the things you do online and offline? I am amazed!

1. Standard I go for a chai tea latte...but right now Starbucks here is in cherry blossom mode and we have a cherry blossom & strawberry latte (only available for about a month and a half) so that's my current go-to. So delicious!

2. It really depends on what time of year and what sort of culture you want to experience. I personally love the Kansai area (Kyoto and Nara specifically). If you want a more traditional approach to culture. Especially in Kyoto if you rent a bike instead of using the bus and such. You really get a unique view of the city that way - a lot of side streets have some amazing sights.

3. when I used to teach in elementary schools over here I would take calligraphy with my students when I had free periods. I also had the opportunity to be taught by a maiko during my exchange program's visit to Kyoto. But I haven't had any formal instruction.

4. haha, most of my online time comes when the boys are both asleep and otherwise I exist on my phone. Certainly DO wish there were more than 24 hours in a day otherwise...slowly chipping away here and there and lots and LOTS of coffee

2. My partner very much likes the idea of visiting Japan, what would you say is the best part about living in Japan?

1. Kingsley is trying to survive the tiny hands and shrill giddy squeaks of the one-year-old mostly I did a bit of redesign of our apartment to provide him with levels - like he has a perch in the kitchen on top of a cabinet where he can always run away to and be safe and sleep in his cat bed. He isn't much of a people kitty - hates cuddles and gets overly stimulated by scratches and petting. But he is my kitty :3

2. The trains. Public transportation in general. Like clockwork and you can get literally anywhere by train. It's amazing.

3. I rejected the books for the longest time because it was a thing that everyone was obsessing over and I thought I was a cool kid who didn't follow the trends. So, despite my mom buying me every single published book at the time, I didn't actually start reading or getting involved in the fandom until the first film. After watching it...I wanted to read the books too

4. Practice. Lots and lots of it. Reading numerous tutorials on the internet. Asking graphic making friends here on SS how they did this and that with their own graphics. PRACTICE!

HELLO!

1. Right now, as a mom of two, my favorite thing is watching them just interact with one another. The laughs they elicited from one another is special just to them and it's just so heartwarming to watch. I also love watching my older try to teach the younger things - of the younger trying to copy what his brother is doing. I grew up without siblings, so this is really special to me to see unfold

2. Honestly....home I have been pretty homesick recently and I miss the Santa Cruz mountains a LOT - particularly my parents. But I would also love to take my boys to Disney World and Universal Studios in Florida.

Hello and welcome, Chrissy!

1. Oh gosh...probably along the same lines as my character's at the moment. It's a SnitchSeeker.com RPG original where you can turn yourself into an animal

2. My boys are 5 and 1 Both January babies.

3. We watch a lot of things together. Ryoma (my oldest) really likes Blue's Clues, Blaze and the Monster Machines, PJ Masks, Curious George, and Paw Patrol - which we watch on DVD since they are not here in Japan. He has also recently gotten into My Little Pony: Friendship is magic (Shintaro really likes the colors). He has also been on a Peppa Pig stint recently as well. And a variety of Japanese anime, My Hero Academia is a favorite at the moment.

1. AHA. Well. It was the email address I used for my first cellphone when I was an exchange student in Japan. I was out bowling with some friends while setting things up and I was struggling to think of something to use and I didn't just want to use my name and my OLD go to for email addressed used to be Sailor Leo (my own headcanon character from a series I had written and drew up character sketches for and everything based on Sailor Moon and meant to be an extension of the universe) so I asked two of my friends to give me an English word. One said sweet because we were eating cake and another said pink because I was wearing pink. I threw on pixie because I was in a huge fairy phase back then...and that was that

2. I play a lot of soccer with my son, coaching him and such primarily. I used to work as a soccer coach during the summers and was a player up until university. But in terms of things for MYSELF, there is always TV shows (thank you Hulu and Netflix for my English needs) and I really enjoy just sitting out on the balcony every now and then with my cup of tea and do a bit of casual stargazing. I grew up under the guidance of a NASA engineer, so it's been in my blood - so to speak - since I was born.

3. Bread. Gosh I love bread. One of my favorite foods over here though is something called okonomiyaki. I tend to order the sort with mochi and cheese filling.

4. Oh gosh. Um...I really love Emma Watson [Hermione] narrating the Tale of the Three Brothers and the animation choice there. I think that's just excellent.

5. Right now in this moment...my mom and dad. It's going on three years since I've been home and I miss them terribly.

6. HMMMMMMMM...that's a tough one I am really not sure but one that does come to mind is just watching my two rugrats interact and play together. I grew up an only child, so watching them develop and have a relationship is something I did not have...and it's really special to see unfold.

1. I played soccer growing up straight through college before I tore my ACL and had to give it up. I played right wing/forward. What position do you play?

2. Do you support any professional soccer teams like MLS or any teams in Europe?

3. Have you ever been to The "Blue Pond" in Biei? I am fascinated but its beauty and want to get there someday!

1. oh OUCH. Those are NASTY injuries! I had a career ending injury as well, but thankfully it wasn't my ACL I was primarily a sweeper (my team tried a flat-back-four but it never worked out) and sometimes switched it up to center mid now and then.

3. I used to, but I haven't been very good about keeping up with leagues and teams outside of Japan recently. Now I just watch those (when I can find the time and good streams on my laptop) for the joy of the sport rather than picking and supporting one side. Though I do prefer European leagues over MLS.

3. I have not! I've only been to Hakodate and Sapporo in Hokkaido thus far, but it's certainly on my list!
