2012: Meet Hera

Hello Hello!

I'm Hera, though most snitchseekers know me as Emily or Emz, and I'm one of the mods you get to meet for the month of September!

I don't want to ramble too much, because I want YOU to ask me questions, but I'll give you a basic rundown of what I do on the site and who I am in real life.

I've been a member since 2003, though I was inactive for a large portion of the time. I'm currently a fanfiction mod and I'm also the Potterwatch mod (and I hope you tune in at some point so we can get to know each other better).

In the School RPG I play the Herbologist and Gryffindor Head of House Seren Bentley and I also play the pyrotechnic maniac of an auror Emily Browne in the Ministry RPG.

I'm 23, live in Australia and I'm a teacher!

1) I have 2 bachelor degrees and I'm getting my third whilst also considering going for masters. I'm a teacher, so education is my LIFE. I'd rather watch documentaries or go to seminars than go shopping or paint my nails. And... yeah. XD
2) I had the BEST teacher in the whole wide world when I was in high school, but she moved schools in my final year. that's when I realised how important it was to have a teacher who was focused, motivated, interesting and that cared about student needs. So, she inspired me to get into teaching and has been a mentor to me throughout Uni and even today. In fact, I work with her now, and her son is in one of my classes XD
3) Emily. She was my first, she's crazy and independent and she's so much easier to play. she's been invading my thoughts for 7+ years now
4) Ravenclaw. It's where I truly belong, even though I've been told I'm rather Gryffindorish. Either way, I'm loyal (but don't mistake me for a Puff).
5) .... both? Lolz, when it comes to travel I'm not fussy. I love it all. Luxury does sound rather nice though I have to admit.

Hahah... erm, yes. Classic example: a group of my girlies decided to have a movies/shopping day on the same weekend as the Perth Writers Festival (where they had FREEEEE seminars and cool stuff and authors to talk to) So OBVIOUSLY, I opted for the seminars.

Erm, if I wasn't a teacher, I'd try writing, but that's not very likely, so I'd probably go back to Uni and do something like physiotherapy or something else medicine/health related.

SUPERHEROES! That's a hard one. There's not many female ones, so I'd probably be Cat Woman. BUT... in terms of favourite superheroes, it'd be a Thor... cause he looks like Chris Hemsworth

1) That's hard. Probably something from Black Books or IT Crowd. Potter quotes are high up on my list too. Or music lyrics.. cause I use those a lot. OOHHHHH! BUT! There's one from Pride and Prejudice that I've loved for a LONG time! : "Might I ask why it is with so little endeavor at civility that I am thus repulsed."
2) Tea. I have a tea collection. I must have at least 50 different types, if not more.
3) Reading. I love writing, but it takes forever and I rarely ever finish anything, so reading is the way to go.

1) I fell in love with HP because of the PS movie. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't be here. And... I found SS by googling Harry Potter stuff while I was in class... at school... not doing my work.
2)... I love starburst lollies. They're yummy. But Natural Confectionery Company are good too.
3) XD Well... I don't GO to uni at the moment. I do that from home. Other than that, I work. And I get about 2 hours of TV/me time a night. IF even that. I also spend insane amounts of time marking. *eyes my pile which I haven't touched in days*
4) IMPOSSIBLE!....................................... ..... still impossible! cupcake
5) Yes! I do! Especially prawns and scallops. And fish of course.
6) Well I HATE the weather. Far too sunny and warm for my liking. But I love... the other stuff. Our culture, food, tv, music... tis pretty good. Perth - which is where I live, was apparently voted as the WORLD'S most livable city. I can't remember what source that comes from though.

2) Yeah, I wanted to study physiotherapy, but my high school didn't offer physics and at the time I was graduating it was a prerequisite for the course (meaning I had to do it) ... so I couldn't, but I could now. they changed it. Physics is now DESIRED but not required. Ggggrrrr. But pharmacy sounds cool too, or pathology!
3) I don't eat breakfast... but baked beans and chicken sausages were pretty awesome when I was in the UK. XD

1) Thursdays or Saturdays. Thursday is my easiest day at work and Saturday is relaxing and I don't have work the 'next day'.
2) YES! I have a dog, her names Gemma and she's a Blue Heeler cross Kelpie.
3) I'd love a horse... and a pomeranian XD
4) Wow... um.. it'd have to be one of the history ones, but I couldn't pick. I love modern history but the seminar on medieval history was awesome.

What sort of media (book, movie, music) has inspired you and its message has remained with you years later?

What do you love about teaching? What do you hate (sorry if it has been asked already!)

And a follow-up to someone's question- in what fields are your BAs and what made you decide to do two BAs and now possibly a third? (I'm really interested in your answer because I just finished my second BA and people tend to look at me funny when they hear that I have two BAs...)

Helloooo!

1) Interesting question! I think... the most inspirational thing that's stayed with me... is probably the song Metamorphosis One by Philip Glass. It's a piana solo, but it's what I listen to whenever I need comfort. It keeps me strong.
2) Another epic question. You're definitely a 'Claw
I love teaching for a number of reasons. It's never boring, each day is different, there are new challenges and the thing I love the most... you learn something new all the time! Plus, it's one of those jobs where you can make a difference which is really special. The thing I hate the most.... early mornings... and lots of marking.... and my lack of weekends. Teaching is not an 8:30-3:00 job, it's a 7:30-6:00 job, including weekends. XD
3) Me tooo!!! I have a BA in Secondary Education and a BA in History. I'll be graduating at the end of the year (again) with a BA of English and Creative Writing. I like BA's, though most people expect me to have Honours and Masters already. I just don't know what area I would want to invest so much time and effort in.... so BA's are good for me

CAUSE I'VE NEVER NEEDED TO KNOW BEFORE!... and I keep asking my parents and the last 2 GP's I've had, but they don't know. My own parents don't know my blood type! ... I'd try to do the science/math/probability stuff and work it out, but I'm lame at that.

1) erm................. I don't watch a lot of TV. Or at least, not as much as I used to. But my favourites include neighbours, house, ncis, ncis la, homeland, big bang theory... and heaps more...
2) All sorts! XD Anything with guitar or piano in it generally gets my vote, but I listen to pretty much anything mainstream. Though I'm not a fan of rap...

I am! It was partly my experiences in school (year 11 and 12 in particular) that got me interested in the field, but it was my year 11 history teacher that really inspired me. She was AMAZING!

I would only recommend teaching to people who are passionate about education and children and who are patient people. Teaching is not a glamorous occupation, you work long hours, including weekends, each day is different with new challenges, kids require a lot of scaffolding, instruction and support... and we're underpaid. But, it's SUCH a rewarding job. Yep.
