2015: Meet Cassirin

Hey, Snitchseekers! My name is Erin, although they call me Ern around here. Don't be confused, though... I'm definitely female, in spite of any references to my long Dumbledore beard.

I guess I'm 'old' by SS standards, although the longer I'm here, the more adults I discover as absolutely in love with books and HP as I am! Although I went to college to be an Elementary teacher, I only taught for a few years before I decided I wanted to try something else. My job now is super secret government work that I just can't talk about (Okay, not really... it's just kind of complicated and sounds boring to people not interested in logistics). I still love kids, though, and I get to work with them through volunteer work in my free time.

I also love books of all sorts, and I'm an avid reader. My goal for 2015 is to read 40 books, and I'm already at book number 8! I'm always looking for new books, too, so if you have some suggestions or want to talk your favorite reads, definitely drop me a line. I'm also currently addicted to binge watching TV shows on Netflix, so let me know if you have a favorite show that you think I might be missing!

During my time on SS (twelve YEARS!), I've worn a LOOOOT of hats. Outside of the school RPG, I've worked in both FanFiction and Knockturn Alley (our RPG section). I joined Snitchseeker specifically because of FanFiction, in fact, and I've written a few stories and even completed a drabble thread a while back. I'm currently the FanFiction admin, so feel free to chat me up about writing and all my OTPs (can you even have more than one OTP?).

I think I'm most active and visible in our RPG areas on the site. In the school, I started out as a mere Ravenclaw, and over the years, I acted as Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, Ravenclaw Head of House, and Headmaster (twice!). I resorted to Slytherin just two terms ago, and I'm still adjusting to the culture shock of having a Slytherin in my head.

Over my loooong past on SS, I've also played a reporter for the Daily Prophet, the IUM Division Chief, at least one house elf, and two Ministers for Magic! Whew! In addition, I hold the distinction (distinct to me, at least) of playing and graduating a second generation character who was actually born while I was playing my first character. Like I said, I've been around a long time!

1. Who? Yooooooooooooooou? I get in so much trouble by picking favorites, so don't do this to me.
2. JUST ONE? This is hard. I really love all of them for different reasons. I think that Mo underwent the greatest amount of character development and was really clear and stubborn about his personality all along, so I'm going to choose him. But I love all of them.
3. These are really hard questions, gosh. Do you know that I see some of me in every character that I create, and some of who I wish I could be, and a lot of who I'm glad I'm not? I think I'm going to choose Mo again, although he is plenty NOT like me.

1- Okay, thanks for the rec! I saw it on Netflix, so I'll add it to my to-watch list.

2- I make these amazing snickerdoodle sandwich cookies with a brown sugar buttercream. They're sort of sugar intensity with a cinnamon twist, but I get rave reviews when I make them.

3- My characters do hate me from time to time, but I don't really regret anything. I'm pretty sure that's why they're so rotten to me all the time.

1. You know the answer to this. EEFFD, of course. The Evil Elite FanFiction Dares were silly one shot fanfictions that had to fulfill a number of challenges issued by other members. My first friends on SS were Evil Elite with me.

2. Schmoop. He's the bestest. Or do you mean canon house elves? Dobby? Is anyone allowed to say something other than Dobby?

3. I'm afraid that particular fanfiction has been inactive a ridiculous amount of time and is probably never getting finished. I wish I could get my muse back because it was loads of fun to write.

You know... I really appreciate the donut, although I'm currently gluten-free so that's just mean taunting!

1. I lied and have only read 7 books but don't hold that against me. I think my favorite so far has been A Corner of White by Jaclyn Moriarty.
2. HMM. My current one at Hogwarts is always my favorite victim, because I know they have the most growth required and because they are the most resilient.
3. It is SO WEIRD. I'm actually a Ravenclaw and my characters were all Ravenclaws, so this is just new and strange. A little freeing, though, because she's just not obsessed with doing well in classes the way the others were, but her insecurities are new and different.

1. I have to say Harry Potter, but I really do mean it. I love reading series, but I sometimes think that the first book promises more than the rest of the series can fulfill. With HP, every single book keeps getting better and better.
2. I used to LOVE Prisoner of Azkaban the best because it was the turning point for me - the point where you realize that JK is pulling strings behind the scenes. But I really really love Deathly Hallows too, just for story telling reasons.

You read me like a book, baby bug. I'm totally a Mosef.

1. Oh, gosh. Let me use my fingers to count... thirteen, but at least two of those probably don't count.
2. THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS TO LOVE ABOUT TOUZ. Mostly I just love that she is a balanced kind of friend - she can be silly and she can be someone you talk to about what ails you, and both feel totally natural. I have lots of people I can be silly with and some people I can talk to about the deep stuff, but it's hard to find someone to do both.
3. *sniff* The MoM, obviously, is the best. I do love all of our RPG areas, especially because I think they make us totally unique among the fansites.
4. It's a secret. I can't tell you or you'd have to go in witness protection.
5. My favorite RP school plot was probably the ghost pirates. It's one of those things you want to be able to play with but don't know how to make work until BOOM the pieces come together. And seeing people pretend to be pirates is just glorious.

And yes, I do miss him... I really enjoyed watching The Mentalist, although I wasn't a very consistent fan over the years. I'll probably give it a year or so and binge watch the whole thing. On Netflix, of course.

1. I don't know them, but I like purple so THE PURPLE ONE. WITH THE PURPLE.
2. Not dragons, although they're my fave, on account of them eating people and that would be sad. Unicorns or flying horses would be cool, and I'm a female, so the unicorns would accept me as one of their own and make me their queen. That's how it works, right?
3. Marcus Branxton, obvs. Kettleburn is super uptight and really only charming to his wife, who must be a little loopy to love him. Mo is a darling face, though.

1. I DID? WHO GAVE IT TO ME? THANK THEM, OKAY? First, I have to buy SS Island and build at least a lean-to on it for all the SS friends to hang out. Then I'd travel extensively, and I'd take you with me because you made this dream possible.

Hey, Jesse!

1. I just finished reading Scarlet, which is the second book in the Lunar Chronicles series. I DID love it, actually, and I would recommend that series to anyone who likes fairy tale retellings/dystopian novels/both.
2. I don't really stalk any one particular character, but I'll happily read an interesting scene between two characters, even if I don't know them very well. I just like to see what other people have going on with their characters.
3. I really do love writing Vivi, because she's so biting sometimes and she's so honest and sarcastic. Her worldview is just FUN.
4. Character names can be hard. I get inspiration all over the place - I use baby name sites, and random name generators to get ideas. I also use place names and fun old words sometimes. Plus canon gives you a good idea of what 'wizarding names' can be.

Hey, Trio! Welcome to SnitchSeeker! I'm really excited that you're interested in FanFiction, because it's something that I really love and that brought me to SnitchSeeker myself. 1. It's waiting for me at the library right now!

3. The ones I don't like writing generally don't end up getting written for long. My last Ministry character was dead boring and I had to trade her in for someone more interesting, but that's the worst I've ever had.

4.5. Hmmm. I love developing characters in general. As soon as they're a little voice and need a name and a history and a personality and a face, they're just fun times for me.

1. Oh, this is tricky. I think I'd like to be British, but that might be my Harry Potter fangirl coming out.
2. Not really, no. I'm not as active now as I have been in the past, but I'm still around almost every day. And it generally isn't boredom, but busyness that makes me go inactive.
3. I'm crazy, that's how! Like I was telling Jesse, I love creating new characters, and sometimes when you build history around them, it requires even MORE characters. I like connecting my characters to other people's, and building history together. It's a weird thing to find fun, but there you have it. I'm weird.
4. No, they can't all be active at the same time. Some of my earliest characters are pretty quiet a lot of the time, and I prefer to hand off new characters rather than try to play ALL of them. It's really hard to keep everyone active, definitely.
5. How? Gosh, that's a really hard question even though it isn't VERY hard to create characters. Generally I start with a name and a basic knowledge of what I need them for (sibling of so-and-so, Healer, youngest child in a notable family with two older sisters, etc.), and then I like to look at faces while I'm thinking about the character. Sometimes the known history and what I need informs the developing of the personality, and sometimes it's the other way around. I really try to struggle with the personality and motivations and all that because I want to make sure that how he or she reacts and acts is authentic and not just me playing a scene for the outcome I want. Writing a bio is REALLY helpful for making ideas concrete and exploring how personality and history and family dynamics all interact. Long answer

So I gotta say that is interesting you studied to be an elementary school teacher and then you went to something else! I am fearing that for college that I might not like my field but ya never know! I am also an avid book reader. Book nerds unite!
