Default The Courtyard

The Leaky Cauldron sits auspiciously as part of the Muggle World, the portal to Diagon Alley. Stepping out the back door of the Leaky Cauldron, it leads to the open patio that is deceivingly large. Once inside the Courtyard the stone path circles around the green area, which is a popular place for young children to relax upon during summer holidays and is also a popular place for, people to lie out and have lunch.

On the green, a tall stone fountain sits and waits for a lucky sickle or two to find its way to the bottom of the fountain. However, the incredible thing about the fountain is the stone is rests upon. The stone floor underneath and surrounding the fountain is charmed to light up with each step a person makes on the stone floor. The color traces the outside of the traveler’s foot and each new step is a fresh new color.

Out on the green surrounding the fountain is the home to a garden of flowers that are freshly planted. Each little patch of flowers is also charmed by Harley to smell of a different kind of treat at the Leaky Cauldron, i.e.. Butterbeer Flowers.

Off to the side of the Courtyard, a winding stone pathway leads to a quaint little pond filled with a hundred carp fish that Ryoma, the old owner, had specially imported from Japan. This little pond is tucked in the back of the Courtyard and serves as a little treat to all who happen upon it. Next to the pond is a simple wooden box with a money hole in the top. Dispense ten sickles and the box produces fish food to feed the carp.

Harley asks that everyone, including little witches and wizards, pick up after himself or herself.

Okay, back to the talk. She listened to her mother as occasionally she nibbled on the chips. "Oh, thank Merlin." The former Gryffindor sighed a relief. Even though there was a tiny possibility to move back home but what if she came to visit and stayed over for a night or two? She just hoped her mother wouldn't take off her old Alec Summers' poster that hanging on her wall since forever.

"We're okay, mom. You don't need to worry." Ava said assuring her mother. Zhenya's income as a healer was enough to support both of them with the rent and other daily necessities. It's just she needed to make money on her own because she couldn't ask that for her sister many times. "Also I need to do something productive while waiting for Ministry placement opens." Just stay in the flat doing nothing was boring.

She just smiled when her mother said how wonderful it was her being the maid of honor. "Well, Noelle is my best friend so there's no way she chose other person for this part." Not to mention Ava had seen the ups and downs of Noah and Noelle's love life so it would be better if she also witnessed them taking a vow to keep loving each other forever after. She was so happy for both of them and excited to help the bride-to-be with the wedding preparations. But that just made her keep thinking if this could happen to her and Phillip, sigh. When her mother said about marriage was not everything, Ava couldn't help but smiled. "I know, mom." And yes, she still wanted to get into YATI program, be an auror and have an amazing career ahead.

"But didn't you and dad... get married in a very young age?" Did her mother mean she regretted that?
Lisabel was glad to hear things were okay at Zhenya and Ava's unit. Not that she was too worried, Zhenya was close to Alexander and would have asked him if she needed help. And so far, that hadn't happened. Lisabel finished half of her sandwich. "And what are you wanting to do in this time?" Lisabel asked. Did she have any interviews? Any solid plans lined up? "Is your application ready for when it opens?" Lisabel wanted her children to be organised, that was all she was tyring to figure out. Although perhaps it came across differently.

"Will you send us a photo of yourself all dressed up?" she asked. She could hang it with all of the other family potos over the years. Lisabel nodded. "What about travel, you and Phillip? Is he... interested in doing things together?" He WAS interested in her daughter wasn't he? She couldn't figure out why it was that Ava believed they weren't close to eing engaged. "I did, but that was during a time where women just... got married, stayed at home, and had babies. I was fortunate enough to have a family to push me in my career, and your father was cetainly driven for career." So it wasn't a problem for her. Besides, moving from Russia to England was easier being Alexander's wife. It would have been more challenging if they weren't married, but that wasn't a proper reason to get married.

"There's an opening at the bakery that's not too far from the flat and I have applied there so... We'll see. Or I could ask Dima if he needs a waitress for his restaurant." Although the former Gryffindor hoped she could work at the bakery because 1) She loves baking and 2) Customers there usually were less rude than the coffee shop. Back in 2 years ago she worked as a waitress at one of the famous coffee shop and it clearly wasn't a best experience. Ava took a sip of her drink before answering about the YATI application. Calm down, mother. That woman sometimes drove her crazy with her obsessive behavior. "It's ready, mom. I got the required OWL and NEWT scores and recommendation letter and that's enough" Although she admitted that it's nice to know that her mother cared about that.

"Sure, mom. I'll send you one." Perhaps a photo of her wearing the maid of honor dress with all-suited up Phillip and the happily married couple. Was it weird that she's really looking forward for the wedding day, even though she's not the bride? Perhaps not. And when her mother asked about her and Phillip, she let out a sigh and reminisced what had happened when she dropped this question. "No.. I mean not yet, I guess." She knew her boyfriend wasn't a type of those people who loved planning things and sort of let the things flow as the time goes. Hopefully in the future he would change his mind and... things go well as she wanted to be. Was that too naive? Maybe not.

Her smile grew wider as she listened to her mother. For the record, this was the first time they had a serious conversation like this since she had remembered. "You're amazing, mom."

Lisabel nodded, knowing that if all else, Merlin forbid, failed, Dimitri would surely take his youngest sister on as a waitress. "Well a bakery would be good for you, I know that." Ava always did make delicious baked treats. "I'm glad to hear. I just want to know that my children have plans in their life. It's all well and good to have a dream, or a goal, but they are nothing without a plan." Lisabel was not a dreamer. She was a doer. And it seemed that Ava was also a doer. Or, at least when it came to what she wanted for her future. All of her children, though, had plans for their dreams, and she had been able to watch all of her children achieve their goals. Her first born son had a beautiful family, and a restaurant. Her eldest daughter had followed her aspiration in furthering her potions education, and was now a Healer Midwife. Ava and Theodore, who had just finished their Wizarding education, were in the process of taking the first steps within their plans, but they were, and that was the important thing. Ava and her YETI application, and Theodore doing his work with business managers.

"Thank you," she said, appreciating that she would send a photo. But she was not so happy to see her daughter looking... what was that, unsure? Unhappy? Confused? She wasn't sure, about her relationship. "Are you happy with your relationship with Phillip?" she asked, not affraid to blurt out the questions.

But the Russian woman's composure slipped slightly when Ava said... she was amazing. Lisabel cleared her throat, took a sip of coffee, trying to gather her thoughts... she put the cup back down, reached across, and took Ava's hands. "Well I think you are amazing, my darling."

The former Gryffindor shrugged. "Well.... Let's see if they want to hire me." She didn't want to put high hopes on this because this was just a part-time job. "And I do have plans, mom. See, if I couldn't get into this YATI program I will... try something else. Maybe doing an apprenticeship or try to get into university." But deep deep down, Ava hoped she could get into the auror training program because 1) She had experienced by doing an internship there 2) Her OWL and NEWT score fulfilled the requirement and 3) She got good recommendation from Hirsch.

Are you happy with your relationship with Phillip? "I am." She answered it without any doubt and ended up blushing and smiling to herself. "I think... I'm falling in love with him." He might be flawed and sometimes he could do stupid things but in the end, Phillip was always there for supporting her. Gosh, this might sounded so cheesy. "I just think we're both... not ready for that, yet. Like you have said, I want to pursue my dream to be an auror first and... he's still figuring out some stuffs." Too bad Ava never really talked about him to her mother because.... Well, their relationship was not that good back then. But as the she grew older and became more mature, she realized how important it was having a good mother-daughter relationship and she was keen to fix that although.... she had no idea how until they met here. This was such a good start, wasn't it?

Awwww... Did her mother just said that she was amazing? For all this time, Ava always thought that she favored her twin more but maybe she was wrong. She couldn't help but smiled as her mother squeezed her hand. "Thanks, mom." You know she could've hugged her or kissed on the cheek but this was a public place and it's quite embarrassing to do that... Or not, screw it. She leaned forward and kissed her mother on the cheek. "Why we'd never have a conversation like this before?"

Lisabel didn't want to push any further, having said what she wanted... or needed, to say. "Well, they'd be silly not to. But the application date will be here before you know it, I am sure of that." Besides, it was just to see her through until then anyway. "I can lend you some money if you need, Ava, I hope you know that." She'd always have her children's back. But why on earth would Ava not be accepted into the YATI programme? "Of course you will," she said.

All of her doubts faded away, when Ava said she was happy. "Good, I can see that you are." The smile and blush were enough of an indication. "Oh, love, well... you've not said this to each other?" she asked. Lisabel was very pleased that her daughter was wishing to pursue her dream of becoming an Auror, over getting married and settling down. Not that she'd say that so bluntly... yet.

Lisabel was overcome with love. When Ava reached across to kiss her on the cheek, Lisabel put a hand over Ava's head, stroking her hair once, and pausing to give her a gentle hug at such an awkward angle. "Well... mothers and daughters under the same roof..." Lisabel waved her hands in a wish-washy way. "Don't always get along." Lisabel hadn't always been close with her mother, and Zhenya certainly hadn't been close with her until she'd moved out.

"Thanks, mom but really... it's not about the money." Right now she could sing this muggle song, the one with the price tag. It's not about the money, money, money... Hehe, but this was serious. Plus Ava just wanted to show it to her parents (especially her mother) that she's grown up to be this... independent young woman who can stand on her own feet. Seeing her sister who was brave enough to move out even before her Hogwarts graduation, worked hard to get what she wanted and now, look at her.

Had Ava said that she loved Phillip in front of his face? Honestly, she couldn't really remember... maybe once or twice after... you know, but maybe she had never really meant it? "That... I might have but not... out loud?" And if she said this, there's a possibility of her boyfriend acted all weird and scared him off just like what she had done in Greece. Taking a sip of her drink, suddenly she asked her mother an unexpected question. "When was the first time you or maybe Dad... say it?" She didn't really know the love story between her parents. The only thing she knew that They both dated briefly and got married in a very young age.

Okay, she didn't really expect the hug but she didn't mind of it. Heck, if public display of affection between lovers were socially acceptable, so why she had to feel uncomfortable with her mother's hug and kiss? "So... I'm guessing you and grandma weren't that closed?" Ava didn't have a chance to meet her grandparents because... They were dead even before she was born. But according to Zhenya, their grandparents were such a nice people.

It's not about the money? Lisabel thought money would help... but then... if it wasn't for the money...Lisabel and Alexander were quite well off, especially now that their home was empty of children. Naturally, the best way she knew how to support her children was financially. Which of course wasn't the ideal thing. "Okay, I understand," Lisabel said. At least she'd given Ava the knowledge that she could help if it was required.

Lisabel was about to respond, but Ava asked a question that really made Lisabel think back. "I think it was your father who said it first. Well, as you know we were engaged on our first date." Speaking of her past made the woman BLUSH! "It would have been that very night." Lisabel was sure of it, because the attraction between them was instant and powerful. It had never faded in all their years married. It was love at first sight. "Why are you not wanting to say it out loud to Phillip?" Lisabel asked.

"We were very close, but not whilst I was there. When I moved out, after graduating, we became very close. It wasn't as my relationship has been between you and your sister," which the Russian mother was saddened by. There was such tension between them and their mother, and the fights were big ones, whereas with her own mother it had been more that Lisabel felt suffocated by her mother's presence. "But once I moved out, we were very close until she died."

There was such tension between them and their mother, and the fights were big ones, whereas with her own mother it had been more that Lisabel felt suffocated by her mother's presence. "But once I moved out, we were very close until she died."
Glad that her mother understood that she didn't really have financial situation for now. Ava just wanted to keep herself productive while waiting for the ministry application. Although she did have other options beside part-time working like doing some volunteer work but she prefer to spend her time by making money. "Thank you for your understanding, mom."

Sipping her drink, the former Gryffindor listened to her mother's story. "You guys got engaged on the first date????" She asked in disbelief. How could she not know about this? She was BLOWN AWAY by this fact. Got engaged for the first date and then being a married couple for like what... 35 years? That's was rare, and nice. Her parents were basically like those couple in that cheesy muggle romantic comedy movie and ended up happily ever after. "What a relationship goals." Well, her story and Phillip was not like that because they met each other when Professor Dakest paired them up in dueling and they were just... friends until that Valentine's day on her third year. "Well... I don't know. I mean... what if he reacted... badly about it?"

Ava took another sip of her drink. "Ah, I see. That's why we weren't that closed with you before we moved out?" And by "we" she meant herself and Zhenya. But at least they're okay now and that's such a good thing.

Lisabel nodded. "It was different back then, anyway. Women were expected to get married and be mothers, we weren't expected to have careers. Our job, as women, was raising our children." Luckily they had a lot of help. She'd done her best at raising Dimitri, and they'd been able to send Zhenya to Russia to be raised by her parents. "Hm, relationship goals?" What did she mean? What if? "Life is full of what if moments, Ava. If you get too stuck thinking about the 'what if's', you're letting them control you." Was that too blunt? "Well, perhaps if he reacts badly, that's something you will have to think about. Reacting badly to a declaration to love is a poor character trait." Well, especially after this long in a relationship.

Lisabel cleared her throat. "Yes, I think so." She didn't enjoy thinking about the behaviour she displayed to her daughters. It wasn't overly supportive, or nurturing.
