Favourite Genre(s) What is your favourite genre(s) of books? :read: This discussion should be kept SPOILER FREE. If you want to include spoilers, put them under a spoiler. |
Definitely it's crime for me. I love the suspense of not knowing who the perp is (though of course, I would try to figure it out); the methods used to carry out the crime but what interests me the most is the motives for the crimes. I like to know what makes the perps tick and sends them into the world of crime. I have so much more that I want to gush about when it comes to this drama but the words are evading me right now  |
I think it’s fair to say that I like action stories. The Hunger Games was a great series. I read all three books so fast! Wish there were more books like this. Divergent didn’t come close. |
YA Fiction, whether it be fantasy/mystery/sci-fi/romance/etc., is my favorite genre. I also have a great love for the classics, such as, Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, etc. I really got into reading when I was in middle school, and it took me that long because I just couldn't find anything I liked...and then my English teacher introduced me to Joan Lowery Nixon who was a YA mystery novelist. I loved her books. I still have the ones I begged my mom to buy me. So, I have a love for mystery novels as well. I am not huge on non-fiction...though the non-fiction that reads as fiction works for me...the self help and books like that and biographies/autobiographies do not keep my interest. |
I love love love historical fiction, especially when it's well-researched and well-written. Also Period AU fanfics. It's my inner nerd, I can't help it. But also I really do adore a good psychological thriller and Gillian Flynn has written some of my absolute favourite ones! |
I find it really hard to chose a favourite - I read (or listen to) most genres. Horror, psychological thrillers and mysteries are probably my favourite, with fantasy coming close, too! I really don't like romance novels, though - although I don't mind romance within other stories, I don't particularly like it as a sole focus. With the amount of driving I do for work, I've really gotten into non-fiction recently, too. It's really engaging to listen to on long journeys! |
Reading everyone's favorite genres makes me want to recommend you all a book. I want you to head over to "If you like this, you'll like this" and let me set you up. I think I ONLY read mysteries and thrillers last year, and before that I was heavy into YA stuff. |
It's really hard to just choose one! I love so many genres but I think the books I tend to read fall mainly into the fantasy one over all. Or at least you can consider them all as fantasy to an extent  |
You all have such a variety of favourites, wow! I like a wide variety of genres, but my favourite genre is probably fantasy or contemporary. They're the ones I read the most, for sure. I used to be into crime/mystery, too, but I haven't really read any books from those genres for years. Quote:

I love a variety of genres but lately I've been reading a lot of historical fiction. |
*casually revives* LOOK. Look. I can't? Decide if I have a favourite genre? I'm a mess, clearly. But also, I've started to get into historical fiction! I was a picky reader as a kid, and I don't wanna limit myself anymore. I wanna read some more from that genre and all other genres tbh! :D |
I would say historical fiction would be my number one pick. I also like science fiction and fantasy. |
I want to be lame and say I like them all, but I get through crime/thriller/mysteries much easier. Sometimes I lose my patience with classic literature, even though I LIKE the stories... it's just hard to get through the writing sometimes. So fast-paced books are more my jam. |
I feel like my favourite is fiction generally and then more specifically fantasy. I love D&D and that type of high fantasy stuff and obviously YA type stories because that's what I lived off when I was younger. As I've read a wider variety though growing up, I do love a good crime/mystery book. I also don't mind a little romance either but that tends to be more so in the YA books that I read rather than me actually seeking out books specifically in that genre. I will also read a biography but it has to be one that super, super interests me. I invertedly bought myself a Gary Barlow biography and whilst I don't mind him, it's not at the front of my reading list  One thing I am guilty of is judging a book by its cover too  If the cover is terrible then I am less likely to read you. |
