Default Book Reviews

Do you have so many thoughts on a book that you could write an entire review on it? Or perhaps you simply enjoy reading book reviews. If so, then this might just be the place for you. You can browse the reviews here. But, beware! Spoilers are allowed in this thread.

It’s incredibly important that you read, understand, and follow the rules for posting reviews, which are:
  • The title of your post must include the title, author(s), and rating of the book you are reviewing. For example: ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ by J.K. Rowling (12+)
  • Before your review, you must include the following:
    • A SPOILER warning if your review contains spoilers.
    • A CONTENT WARNING if Sensitive Topics are discussed in your review. They can be included if you (a) include a content warning listing the sensitive topics the review includes, and (b) do so respectfully, but it should be kept to a minimum.
  • Limit of one review per post.
  • Reviews must be at least a paragraph (4-5 sentences) in length but can otherwise be as long as you like.
  • Double posting is allowed.
  • This is NOT a discussion thread. If you enjoyed reading a member’s review and want to let them know, nip over to The Book Nook!
  • If you want to start a discussion about one of the reviewed books, here is how to do that.
  • Posts that don’t follow the above instructions will be deleted.

If you have any queries, send them via PM to Harron Peasley, natekka or Stormdancer.

This review does not contain spoilers.
CW: murder/death, suicide

I looooooooved the concept (and execution) of this book! I don't know why it took me so long to get around to reading it. The concept is sooooo interesting. It would be amazing to have the culmination of humanity's knowledge at your fingertips, and be immortal!

Some of the characters were great - Citra, Scythe Faraday, Scythe Curie, and Scythe Goddard - and the rest somewhat paled in comparison, Rowan included. There wasn't anything particularly dislikeable about him, per say, but I only really enjoyed reading his POV when he was with Citra.

I love a well-written villain, and that was Goddard. I would say he's almost as dislikeable as Harry Potter's Dolores Umbridge, which is saying something, for sure. He is manipulative and, like many villains, charming.

Overall, this book thoroughly impressed me, which is why I bought and read its sequel, Thunderhead, immediately after I finished reading it.

Review taken from my Goodreads. (x)
